would it be a problem if my car ran too cool

this is really just a hypothetical question for the near future. along with my new afr195s and zz409 cam. i am going to get a bigger radiator but currently run anywhere between 165-185. just wondering if running cooler then that would have an aderse effect on my car.

If youre running fuel injection running too cold will keep the car from going into closed loop mode.

If your not running a computer I would not see why not. In Chevy Mag. they say running colder = more performance, other people say chevy motors run better hot then colder. I would rather have my motor on the colder side if its got a carb but that just my opinion.

Fuel injected engines like around 180-190. Any colder than 160 in a carbed engine and the fuel will have a harder time atomizing.

Not to mention that a TPI running to cold will get really shitty gas mileage. Don't ask how I know!

Re: would it be a problem if my car ran too cool

Are you running factory guages? I'm asking because when I switched from factory guages to all Autometer guages my temp guage showed almost 20 degrees hotter. That was the only change I made at the time. I also trust the Autometer guage more than the old factory guage. I also found my motor runs best between 180 and 190. I am carbed though.

Running to cold does Irreversible damage to your engine. Engine parts wear faster and will lead to more problems in the future.

If you look at post #6, there s link to a test that was performed. It shows that with lower temps comes increased cylinder wall wear.
