Ahh I mixed my Gas, problem?Help

Well yesterday i decided to put some gas in my car, i usually put super because thats what the previous owner put in the car but yesterday i was feeling lucky and i decided to put in regular.

Later that day my car was having trouble starting, it would start and the Rpm would drop slowly til it would turn off. I had to rev the engine for a good minute before i was able to take off.

That was last night but today i turn my engine on just fine and everything is good to go.

My gas tank is almost out i have maybe about a quart left, and my guess is that i burned all the regular gas? I put in about 5 gallons of regular i think its about 86 octane ? or 88?not sure but i know its like a 3 octane difference between super and regular.

Can this happen because of the gas mix? or am i looking at a bigger issue?

Thanks for the help

Its not the octane of the gas that caused any issues.

Nope - stock TBI car should run fine off regular gas - start using regular and save that cash! There's another issue that you might need that extra cash for.

i Got it looked at by my friends mechanic and he suggested i changed out a sensor right under the air filter casket.

Im not sure exactly what its called but he said that it controlled the RPM, and perhaps mine was dirty, or i needed a whole new sensor.

Does anybody know the exact name of the sensor? He told me not to go to autozone cuz they are bad with electronics.

It's the IAT - Idle Air Temp sensor.

Thanks, do u think hes right and it could be the source of the problem? i figured i would start troubleshooting with the cheaper things like that sensor, then the fuel filter etc.. im really hoping its not my fuel pump

This is a recent purchased car for you isn't it? Grab a fuel filter and replace that too - who knows how long it's been (if ever) since it's been replaced. It's located driver side under the car just in front of the rear wheel. Open the gas cap to release pressure on the system beforehand. Watch the face - no matter what you do you'll get gas coming out of it when you replace.

Yes it is, i got it about 2 weeks ago? maybe even less. Unfortunately im not sure how well the car was taken care of, or what was changed. I paid about 1300 for it.. it has a few flaws like the struggle to start sometimes, and shutting off on reverse hoping its nothing big.
