Looking to put a cam in

I wanna put a cam in my car but I'm not sure whether I need to buy a computer controlled cam and lifters. They are alot more expensive than the non computer controlled cams. I didn't know if as long as I get my prom tuned right I would be fine without the computer controlled cam. What I have now is a 350 TPI headers magnaflow exhaust. The block and heads are Jasper rebuild and I think it's an 83 block and heads. Adjustable fuel regulator and two sets of injectors. One set is the stock TPI 350 injectors and the second set are from a late model LT1 corvette injectors. I bought a polished TPI it came with a moated.net adapter to flash memory instead of a prom. Alrigth with that said I need know computer controlled or non computer controlled cam.

Thanks ahead of time.

The computer compatable cam is the way to go. The others will make tuning dificult.

the CC cams aren't that much more $. Look here: http://www.competitionproducts.com/E...uctinfo/E923M/ That'll work just fine. 204/214, 420/442, 112.

Can I use the same cam that you have? The powermax 2040? Is it a nice cam?

Re: Looking to put a cam in

ya computer capatable cam is best with new lifters, I see you've alot of 350 add ons but are you trying to change a 305 block to a 350? Cause if so I would just invest into a 350 block, you will end up with the what ifs? down the road in the future if you don't.

Re: Looking to put a cam in

No I have a 350 block already I just took it out today because a drill bit broke off into the oil pan while trying to get the threads out from the brass fitting for the oil sending unit. I had to pull it out and I figured it's out now why not put a cam in. So that's what I am doing now.

And today along with the motor pulled I went down to the local speed shop and bought the cam and lifters. Should be in Monday. Not trying to copy you but the cam fit the price range and what I wanted.

But what does the cam make the idle sound like? Do you have any video clips of your car? I can't wait to hear it. Where did you get your ECU tuned at?

Re: Looking to put a cam in

The crane 2040 cam has a smooth idle. It has a decent sound but I think it would have more if my exhaust were not so quiet. I almost don't remember the sound since I have not seen my car in 9 months. It pulls well up to about 5400. Its a good tpi cam and I don't regret buying it. I ran the cam for four years with a stock 87 ecm and adjustable fuel pressure regulator before getting a moates adapter and chip burner. I was in the process of figuring it out when the car was put into storage. Unfortunately I don't have any video of the sound.

Re: Looking to put a cam in

I got a magnaflow with SLP headers with a test pipe. I hope that makes the cam noticeable. But if not oh well I can still say I HAVE A CAM IN MY CAR! haha. So you never got the computer tuned? Maybe thats why it had a smoother idle? I actually have a moates adapter chip but no burner and no software and no idea how to reprogram my chip with the cam, so i think i am just going to send the chip out to harris performance in North Carolina and pay for it to be done right and save the stresses of getting the chip right. Maybe down the road I'll figure it out.

That sounds sick! What did you do with the computer chip? Send it out? or DIY?

Re: Looking to put a cam in

I bought the programmer, had the memcal modified with a socket and burned my own chips.

Cool cool I would do that but I don't have the knowledge so I think I am just going to have Harris Performance program it for me.
