Re: Good Setup for 400???

Bad intake, been losing racing for decades now, on the track and on the street.

Use a Performer RPM instead.

I'd suggest the 3100 timing set, which is actually roller, instead of the "truck roller", which is not a roller at all but rather, bushings.

Don't buy push rods until you've assembled the engine and checked for optimum length. Those stock length ones will probably turn out to be too short. They're probably "enough" push rod in terms of strength and all that, just, you have NO WAY to know what the optimum length for YOUR particular pieces of metal will be, until they're all together. Having solid lifters makes the measurement a piece of cake.

Rest is good. If you've never had a solid cam before, you'll LOVE it.

I was wondering about that timing chain. Thanks for letting me know. The one bad thing about the intake is i had already had it from the guy i bought it from. How badly will it perform. it seemed to be ok when it was on the engine before.

Re: Good Setup for 400???

Dismal intake. The only reason people use them now is because they already have them. From a guy who "swears by it" -- yet sells it cheap (hint hint).

Sofakingdom - Welcome back buddy. Where'd you evaporate to in the last two years?!?

Re: Good Setup for 400???

I would stick with the 1.5 Roller rockers and maybe look at getting a stall around 2800. A stall around 2400-2600 is not much more than a stock converter with is around 2000-2200. 2800-3000 stall is still a good street coverter and with your gears and tranny, will have a nice off the line seat of the pants torque. Remember, using a foot brake with a stall usually cuts ur stall off the line to maybe around 700 rpms. So if you setup is making power in the 2200-6200 rpms, then a stall with around 2800 rpm will drop to around 2100-2200 with a foot brake. 2800 stall would be perfect. 1.5 rockers with that cam is perfect. 1.6 Rockers would increase the cam lift at raise the power range of the cam, but then you have to start measuring valve to piston clearance when increasing the cam lift. These are just to be safe figures and only suggestions. Hopefully this will help you a understand a little bit more. Definitely do not get the Torker II install. Stick with a dual plane manifold. The Performer RPM would be perfect to around 6300-6500 rpm. Have you decided what compression you will be using? 10.1 would really be perfect with this setup and can still run pump gas.

Re: Good Setup for 400???

yes its going to be pump gas in the 10.1 range. Thanks for the information. Do you guys have clearance problems with other intakes with the stock hood??
