What would cause my engine rpms to bog out at 40-45 mph?..new sparks wires dist. cap, just rebuilt the TB...it has been doing this before all the new stuff.. I think its related to my smog failing, not throwing any codes... seems to get worse the more I drive it through the day.... when i mash the gas it wont bog.. Its not so bad when the car is cold

 

Are you sure it isnt throwing any codes? or is the SES light out? Does it bog out at the same rpm if you put it in park/neutral? If it does, you're looking at an ignition issue. Otherwise, start suspecting fuel issues. Start with the basics, fuel pressure, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator.

 

the light works, it throws codes but I get em fixed, this hasnot thrown any...a few weeks ago it through a fuel pump relay code, but I think if it was the relay the car would not start

 

Check on the revs in neutral/park and let me know. We'll go from there.

 

revs fines in N/P... I can red line it smooth...it only happens at about 40-45...Im thinking now it might be tranny what ever gear it is maybe its stutterin to shift up?..MPH will go up but it putters out a few...when I mash on it it will pop up and accel.

 

lock the tranny into 2nd, bring it up to 40-45, what happens?

alright, not sure how its suppose to reve in 2nd, but when I punch it and let got it will go up to about 2,000 rpms and drop... when I hold the rev it kinda stuck at 2,000 an then with a little more the tires burnt out and rpms climed

 

Could this be a symptom of a bad EGR valve?.. im thinking its something to do with my extreamly high fuel to air ratio

 

It sure is starting to sound like it, breaking up in the partial throttle range. Replace the valve, see what happens. Could also be an issue with the TBI system, I however am not a TBI expert, so I cant even point you in the right direction with that.

 

not sure if this is a reliable check but I unplugged it to see if any outher symptoms would occur and it ran the exact same, im ganna pull it tomorrow and try to clean it...its a 180 dollar part

 

If the valves stuck close, unplugging it wont do anything Might have to clean/replace it. Run some sea foam through it while you're at it

 

I hate emissions with a passion, I think 80% of these cars problems are due to emission b/s

 

i have the same issue with my 91 305 tpi automatic...throwin code for o2 sensor too rich...gonna rpelace them as well as clean throttle body and iac...it also stalls when im stopped in gear sometimes runs nearly perfect in neutral/park...i hope its not egr for me , gotta disassemble the intake to get to the damn thing but it could be the culprit has new,map,tps,fuel filter,vss(still doesnt give me a read on speedo???) and a few other things like oil/airfilter....PLEASE HELP??

 

my car sometimes shifts into overdrive at 40 mph. are you sure this isn't happening? put it in 3rd and drive around like that and see what happens.
