Starter will not engage
I just swapped my heads for vortecs on my 91 fbd 305 tbi...got everything hooked back up and go to start it..nothing..tried a few times actually and nothing happened..The guages maxed out and all the dash lights came on but that was it.
So i checked the starter. Exactly the same wiring as before the swap (cuz i never touched it). Checked the battery leads- all good.
Then I figured it was vats ( I had a problem starting my car because of it about 1/10 times before all this.) Got my chip ohm number and stuck a resistor in that plug under the dash. Thought it was gonna work,but.....nothing.
WHAT AM I MISSING!!!???
btw my security light does not flash with or without resistor, just lights up when key is turned

do you have all the grounds hooked back up to the heads and the block? had this issue with my first motor swap, too much power going in and nowhere to go so the gauges kind of tip you off to that

Re: Starter will not engage
Should have:
1) neg batt cable to block
2) a split line from neg batt cable to fender
3) groundstrap from pass rear head to firewall
That connects batt to block, block to firewall, fender to battery to complete ground circuit

Double check that you got all the ground wires re-attached on the back of the heads. I had the same issue last weekend, the starter wouldn't do anything. As soon as I hooked up the ground wires to the back of each head the starter worked.

When you turn the key nothing happens? Connect the two wires on the start together and see if it the starter turns over, I used a screw driver. If it turns over your ignition switch probably went out or your blew the fusible link to the starter. Good Luck.

Re: Starter will not engage
ok i have no idea how anything electrical works on a car so i had a guy come look at it.First he jumped the starter. That worked, but the injectors wouldnt fire. So for power to the injectors he ran power from the fuel pump relay. (He switched the fuel pump and and fan relays around at one point and that made the starter be able to turn from using the key..wierd, i know)..So after wiring up the injectors to the fp relay, he tried starting it..it would try and start but there was no fuel pressure...The fuel pump is not getting power now...Basically, the starter and injectors are rigged up for power now, but the fp has no power..no clue where to go from here

Re: Starter will not engage
you would think that the vats would be whats causing this, but it cant be it because just by switching a relay, the starter works.
