Car smoles after comes back from shop
Got my car back from the dealership after they did an oil filter change and oil change. Drove it all the way home and when I get in the driveway after I get out I do that 'look at your car just one more time' thing. I notice a sort of smoke spilling out from under the hood, so I open up the hood to figure out where it is coming from and it looks like it is from where the oil filter is. My mom is worried it is something serious but I think I remember hearing that its normal for your car to smoke after an oil change because it is burning off the old oil. Is that what is happening? Car has never smoked before so Im hoping someone else could agree with me or atleast shed some light.

Whoever changed your oil, spilled some on the block or exhaust manifold causing the smoke. You can take some water and rinse it off. Or it will smoke off in a short time.

I bet they did it on purpose because the last time I was there they took 3 and a half hours to just change the oil. So my mom (Im 16) complained about it and so the guy said we will give you a free oil change. It is a Lincoln dealership so I guess they take complaints really bad.

yeah they spilled oil on something . Do yourself a favor spend 30$ on some ramps 10$ on a drain pan and 2$ on a funnel it'll save you a ton of time and money , dealerships rob you on that kinda stuff.

Yeah I would take it to a chevy woodhouse dealership except the closest one is over 40 miles away! Woodhouse normally has very good quality work. I would do it myself but parents are divorced and I live with mommy who can name every car she sees but doesnt know much about repairs. If I did live my dad he has no idea how to either, so I guess I will ask a friend how to or something.

Re: Car smoles after comes back from shop
Its very simple....
1. Warm up engine
2. Turn off engine
3. Remove drain plug and let oil drain into pan
4. Remove oil filter and let oil drain into pan
5. Replace drain plug
6. Install new oil filter, put oil on the rubber gasket on the sealing surface of the filter and on the inner threads of the filter (to prevent leaks and prevent seizing respectively, not a big deal to do it perfectly)
7. Put 5 quarts in the top of the engine.
