Need more info... what size engine are you putting head gaskets on? Iron or aluminum heads? Is it a fresh rebuild (never run) or an engine with some miles on it?

Just use a standard Fel-Pro rebuilder head gasket set. The ones with the blue rubber coating on them, called a 'perma-torque' gasket or something like that. I think they are around .039 thick. These gaskets work really well, and don't need to be retorqued later. You don't need anything fancy for what you are doing.

SWEET THANK YOU VERY MUCH IM TAKING OUT MY ENGINE TO REPLACE SEALS AND ALL GASKETS AND FREEZE PLUGS AND WHILE I HAVE AN ENGINE OUT IM THINKING OF DOING A SIMPLE REBUILD BUT LIKE MAYBE HAVING A BIT OF AN UPGRADED CAMSHAFT BUT DONT WANT ANYTHING TO VER THE TOP WHERE I AM GOING TO NEED TO UPGRADE INJECTORS AND COMPUTER OR TRANS. AND WONDERING WHAT LIFT AND DURATION WOULD BE A LITTLE BETTER THAN STOCK BUT NOT TO WAY HIGH PERFORMANCE AND ALSO PISTON TYPE

A set of flat-top pistons and a stock cam from an LT1 would be a good way to go.

Re: HOW TO KNOW WHAT HEAD GASKET TO BUY
Hey Adam, I'm pretty much doing the same thing with my L98. The original gaskets measure .028 thick. Won't going to a .039 gasket lower the compression ratio? Just asking, Thanks.

You're right, it will lower the CR, but the drop is very small. It won't make any noticeable difference.

Re: HOW TO KNOW WHAT HEAD GASKET TO BUY
Why don't I join in? Adam, I have a 350 that's bored .40 over. Iron heads nothing fancy done to them. I bought the standard Fel-Pro head gaskets and used those. Was this a bad idea since I'm bored? Or am I okay?
