Heater core issues?

I have an issue and i think i know the problem, but i want a few more opinions before i go to work. Im pretty sure, no i know the heater core is bad in my car. It drips on the passenger floorboard, but thats besides the point. After the car has warmed up, a vapor flows out of all the air vents and has a nice way of fogging my windows on cold rainy days. I think this is because the heater core is shot. Any other ideas before i tear into it?

Re: Heater core issues?

yep, if you knew it leaked then it wasn't a surprise to find the windshield fogging because that's one characteristic of a leaking heater core. Mine was doing this exact same thing in December, replaced it and the fogging went away. Its actually pretty easy to change it out, took me and my dad a little over 2 hours to take it out, just remember that there are 2(If I remember correctly) screws at the top of the heater core cover that you can get to from the top of your dash after removing the dash pad. You just need to make sure you don't rip the in and out hoses that connect to the heater core at the firewall when you take them off of the old one.

Re: Heater core issues?

It's the heater core - replace it or bypass it.

Re: Heater core issues?

I'm replacing my heater core right now but both NAPA and Autozone have given me the exact some heater core. It doesn't fit. It is really loose and when you try to put on the hoses it just slides back into the housing. I got my old heater core from Autozone 6 years ago, the guy there showed me on the computer that m old one is the same part # as the new one he gave me. Where did you get your heater core??? I might just take it to a radiator shop and see if I can get it patched up.

Called O'Reilly's and what they have in-store is different than what they show online

Re: Heater core issues?

My heater core has some issues too. I hit it a few times with a hammer after I took it out.

Re: Heater core issues?

you might need someone to hold it in place from inside the car while you attach the hoses to it

Re: Heater core issues?

I can have somebody hold it but once I close everything up it will still be loose in there and will not seal properly. The old one was nice and snug and fit perfect. I've looked at AC Delco, O'Reilly, NAPA, and Autozone and they're all selling the same heater core. Definitely frustrated with this one.
