timing problem

my dad and i advanced the timing on my 84 z28 and now whenever i put it in drive or reverse it stalls. im not sure how much he advanced it because he did it by sound then checked it with the timing gun. i think he advanced it 16* from factory specs. the car has a all stock 305.

Re: timing problem

stock should be at 6 deg. BTDC. the timing should be set with the EST (electronic spark control) circuit disconnected.

i just got done giving it a full tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor etc.) and the car runs great and has alot more pep now that we advanced the timing. the only problem is when i put it in drive or reverse i need to immediately give the car gas of it stalls.

Re: timing problem

thats what i mean. the pick up coil and ICM have a tendency to go bad and you dont replace those for a tune up. those may cause the drivability issues your describing.
