Posts about V6s
Every time I find a thread with no replies in Tech / General Engine, it's V6.
Sometimes the answer is V6-specific, sometimes no. But us V8 guys have no clue, so when we discover that the OP is V6, we move on to interesting threads.
Even now that I own a V6, and I've driven a few 2.8 third gens before, to me, I'm still a V8 guy. And every 305 I've ever driven has proven inadequate or disappointing or both. To me, a 2.8 is nearly half an engine, and a 305 is 7/8 of an engine. 7/8 rounds up, but less than 50% does not.
It's this way for most F-car guys as well. About 85% of all F-cars ever built came with V8s, and about 85% of those were the 350. In the years when there was no 350 option, at least buying a 305 made it easier to swap to a 350.
I think it needs revised to Tech / General V8 Engine, or Tech / General Engine EXCEPT V6!

The engine does not make the car. I like the lines of a nicely restored 3rd gen.

I believe your assumption about production numbers is bass ackwards. You will see that there were more base and RS models made of 3rd gens than Z28 and IROCs. The same holds for Mustang as well as 4th gen F bodies. There were more v6 models sold.

Look at '77. Nearly 80% of all Camaros got a 350. Look at '75, it was like 85% of all '75 Camaros that got the 350.

I didn't type third gen. I typed F-car. That includes all 4 gens. The 350 was offered from '67-'97, except '82-'86 of course, and the LS1 is close enough, since the alternative was again a V6.

A V6 is still a chevy motor. Still same principle. While head and cam choices may be V6 specific, the same could be said with a 305 vs a 400. So a general/tech question for a V6 vs V8 will still have the same answer more times then not.

That's not fair. Third gens are the third gen of what? F-cars! First and foremost, more than which generation they happened to be. Because nearly all third gen buyers had already bought a second gen. How many 350s would have been sold in '82-'86 had it been offered? However, it wouldn't have cut into V6 sales, and this thread is about the V6 owners needing help, but not getting it, and looking at why that is, and looking at what might be done about it.

On top of that, I don`t see too many 1st, 2nd or 4th gen owners posting on here often, looking for tech advice. So to keep the numbers relevant, looking at only 3rd gen sales, since this is a 3rd gen site, not an all F-car site, would be more relevant.

I bet your argument about production numbers would null and void if you did that though.

The SBC is the whole point of these cars. They were designed around the sBC. The 2.8 could be had in Fieros, S-10s, and FWD junk. But not the SBC.
The 6/60 died after '95. The 350 is still coming off an assembly line down in Mexico.
The 2.8 wasn't intended for those who were in on a secret. There is no secret, and never was. In fact, the pre-'85 2.8s are infamous for broken cranks. The 6/60 was offered only to have something below the V8, for poor people, who couldn't afford the V8, and because it helped with CAFE.

I don`t know where you get your information from, but I know many 3rd gen owners that have never, nor have the desire to own a 2nd gen.

And you're way off topic.

WOW, your information is VERY wrong.
The 660 was produced up to 2005, at least. After 2005, there were new engines based on the same design, referred to as the "High Value" engine.
