Post the Year/Model of the car, along with the Engine/trans combo.
Aka, 1989 TransAm GTA, 5.7L TPI Auto.
Though I'm guessing you are talking about your Recaro TA. I'm not sure what engine you had. Crossfire, L69?

I'm guessing you are starting out with an L69 then which is a non-roller block.
I suggest giving CompCams a call and seeing what they recommend for a stock head/block 305.
I however would skip the cam at first, and go with intake and exhaust mods. Headers, cat-back....
Not too sure on intake options for the L69.

PS what is your real goal 10HP - 200hp above stock
as above heads, exhaust, intake, then a cam... and more cfm flow

I just want more power.. but I don't wanna overpower the tranny either.
Just a little more to keep it fun to drive.
How much are intakes and what brands should I look at?
Thanks guys

Re: What are the best cams to go with?
Forget the Cam idea if you only want "a little more power".
If thats the case look into intake and exhaust mods. Do full headers and cat-back as well as intake upgrades. Don't even bother with a cam or heads.
Cam and heads is for people who want to keep the same platform but want serious power upgrades, its too much $$$ and work otherwise because you need the intake and exhaust mods to go with it. Then again, I don't know if I would go beyond full exhaust on a L69, or any flat tappet 305. I'd probably just jump straight to a 5.3L engine swap.

You could go with a edelbrock performer manifold and matching cam. That would give you a decent pick up over that stock peanut cam. But you should start with the exhaust first.

I agree with Thirdgen89GTA. Do the intake & exhaust if you just want "a little more power". Otherwise, get a better cam, better heads, better intake, headers, etc.

Re: What are the best cams to go with?
The only problem with intake and exhaust is good parts can have you spending over $1000.... for 20hp. You get a lot more power for your money with cam/head swaps, but you run into the problem of needing the intake and exhaust ot keep up with hte cam.
So where does this leave you?
Depends on how much money you feel like spending.... I'd probably just save for a 5.3/5.7/6.0 swap myself. Even then, you'er gonna have to invest in good exhaust for a swapped in engine to work.
The ball is in your court, I dont think the ROI for a good exhaust is really worth it on stock or near stock engines, but the difference in sound helps make it worth it. And if you want more power exhausti s something you WILL have to do eventually.

Re: What are the best cams to go with?
Can do Cheapie headers and a cat-back for about $800 or so I would think. Maybe less.
Would it be the same as spending for a set of coated 2055 or Dyno Don headers and a stainless steel cat-back? No, but it would provide an increase in power. Besides, its just an L69, with a set of mid-range shorty headers and a cat-back it'll breath alot better up top where the L69 likes to be.
From there you can either stop, or plan an all out build. Personally if its an all out build I'd change to a Gen3/4 SBC like a 5.3L. They make some GOOD power. The cost of getting an L69 to the same level of power as a 5.3L would be compariable.
Could go to a carbed 5.3L and make some good power.

Re: What are the best cams to go with?
Thanks for the input guys. Whats the best online website to buy performance parts from? I looked at the oem headers and couldn't believe how restricted they looked.
