Adding cruse control is a possible???

I have an '87 Sports Coupe and today while driving home had a thought of adding cruse to my Camaro. Has any one ever done, if so how and could you even buy a complete kit to do this? Any advice would be great thanks.

Your best bet is to hit up a junk yard and pull it all from a doner car..

Re: Adding cruse control is a possible???

not thta bad you need the servo

the entire harness and the vacuum hose form pedal switch to the servo

the pedal switch, the one with the vacuum hose port on it

the stalk lever switch from a column any gm late 80s to early 90s one from an f body or s10 or most FWD buicks and oldsmobiles are all same

some wires plug into fuse panel face

the rest plug into the servo and to the stalk lever switch and to the brake pedal interrupt switch

its pretty straightforward the hardest part is installing the lever switch stalk into the column

its tricky feeding the two wires for it down the column

maybe run a flexible stiff wire down the column and attach wires to that and pull tjem through with it like and electricians fishtape trick

if you need a stalk switch lemme know i have several good ones for your year style around

they can be hard to find good used and are pricey new usually

but they are common style in many gm vehicles, its the lever stalk for the wipers and bright headlights also

My guess is, your car already has the wiring. I'm pretty sure it was a standard option on all of these cars. The servo you can buy from AZ or Orielly's or wherever for about $80.00ish if you cant find one in the junk yard.

Re: Adding cruse control is a possible???

Around here there are many junk yards and 90% of these cars have all the cruise control stuff still in them!
wire/vac harness to and from the servo thats needed
brake switch for the cruise vac harness.
a vac ball under the batt tray on dr side of the car
the cable from the Carb,tbi/tpi to the servo
Im not sure if the dash will have the wiring but it may.
steering column lever and wiring.
Im sure there may be a few little things but thats a start.

Its a worth while swap 4 sure.

I use my cruise all the time, whether 45, 55, 75 on the freeway. Anywhere the speedlimit is constant for a while, I'll usually set it. Mostly to avoid tickets because of "Speedo creep"...stupid phenomenon that seems to happen anytime a good song pops on the radio!

Re: Adding cruse control is a possible???

look at your car up under the dash and hood. junkyard cars, and a GM service manual. That will help ya tons.
You most likely wont get it all on one trip.. happens to me all the time.

Cruise is a completely independent system as long as you have the same induction (carb-carb, EFI-EFI) and has nothign to do with the motor. If you swap EFI-Carb or vice versa, you may need some adapters or get a unit out of a suitable car that youre swapping the motor from.
