Mysterious noise coming from dash

I've been experiencing a strange noise that seems to be coming from inside the middle of the dash. I only began to hear it just recently. I would say it sounds like a clicking but its the clicks are so fast that it almost sounds like a little motor. Its rather quiet but still annoying and noticeable. It behaves interestingly; It will only occur when in a gear(1,2,D,OD) and its most noticable in when coasting in 4th gear. (when I have my foot off the gas in 4th gear) If I accelerate a certain small amount then it goes away for about 5 seconds. It occurs in the other gears and even sometimes when idleing but occurs loudest when in 4th.

Does this happen to sound familiar at all? Thanks guys! I don't know what I would do without thirdgen

NOTE: The only work I've done on the car recently is replace the transmission fluid because it all leaked out and the transmission was having problems shifting. This noise started soon after this whole thing happened but I don't know how it would have anything to do with it...

Re: Mysterious noise coming from dash

Sounds like one of the little vacuum motors that control the air doors, has a leak.

Probably not connected with the trans fluid deal.

Would that explain why the sound depends on what gear I'm in and if I'm accelerating or not?

My car doesn't have a tach gauge. lol

Also, I don't know if it has anything to do with the heat or AC because it happens whether they are on or off.

Of course.

Engine vacuum changes because of those things.

See my signature. I live by its lesson.
