performance problem

i have an 82 with a carbed 350 out of an 85 k1500 and a TH350 trans from a 82 silverado.. im running a weiand street warrior intake manifold with a edelbrock 600 cfm carb. my timing is set at 10 degrees. the car just doesnt seem to have the amount of power coming from light that it should.. granted my kickdown cable isnt working for when i romp on it to pass someone been fighting with it for a couple months. i dont know if the transmission is to weak for it or if its the rear end. or maybe if i lost my marbles? i have had a little bit of metal flakes in the oil the last couple oil changes. i have been going through checking for vacuum leaks.. turned up the fuel mixtures and it got a little better but it still acts like its not getting enough.. maybe a 750 cfm carb might work better? idk im kinda stumped on it.. maybe i need to replace the crank bearings.. anyone have any ideas on this?

Your TV down in the trans is probably getting hung up on something i had the same problem i replaced the spring for the TV and it was fine after that.

Pull the trans pan and see why the end of cable is not staying attached to the hook on the TV valve
If cable is fitted and adjusted correctly
there is no way it can come loose unless it is installed wrong or very stretched

or get ready to buy a new trans

Re: performance problem

On a TH350 it is not a TV cable and you will not blow the transmission from not having it hooked up.

Re: performance problem

This would be a problem... except that it should be on the PASS side, not the driver's; and it should be toward the rear, about right above the right rear corner of the pan.

That would be the vacuum modulator line. It MUST be connected to engine vacuum. That's half of the transmission's "eyes" on the outside world, the governor being the other half. The governor tells it how fast the car is going, and the VM tells it how much load the engine is under. (A FAR superior system IMO to the stupid "TV cable" idea... no idea why GM, after decades of using the superior and basically infallibly accurate VM setup, took a step backwards into Xler world with the stupid cable thing, but w/e.... it is what it is....) There was usually a small steel line from the trans (with a short "elbow" of hose at the VM) up to the motor, where another short pigatil of hose connected it to the manifold right behind the carb.

Without that, the trans will always think the engine is at absolutely 100% WOT 100% of the time, and will basically NEVER shift, at least not until the motor gets up to about 6000 RPM.

Sounds like it's time to check over the whole installation for missing / messed-up parts, and fix all that before worrying about bearings or carbs or any of that.

Re: performance problem

the modulator line is hooked up.. this transmission came out of a truck. there is an open line on the drivers side just about straight up from the shift linkage. i could never find a diagram that shows me what hooked up to it. the trans shifts alright.. its just i dont know what it goes to

Re: performance problem

No other line goes to the trans; that must be the vent.
