Visual diff. 305 vs. 350 tpi

I know there are super old questions about this but i was wondering BESIDES the vin number, someone is telling me that their 86 iroc has a 350 from a vette (i see it's a tpi) but it was originally a 305.

I wanna know if it's an l98 or a the 305 and don't know if he knows what he is talking about. I am thinking about getting it. How can I tell if it's a 350 or 305?

He said it's pushing about 270hp with magna flow exhaust. Is that possible with the l98 with pretty much stock setut?

Checking numbers is the only way. Just looking at it, a 305 will look just like a 350.

If it's a TPI from a Corvette, it will be a 350. I think all the Corvette's were alumiunum heads, so that should be easy enough to check.

Lots of aluminum heads have been put on 305s over the years. And there are more motors "out of a Corvette" sold than there have been Corvettes made.

Casting numbers are the only way to know.

Where would the casting numbers be located?

No covers or anything on it, but it won't be terribly easy to get to, unfortunately.

Many times the numbers are covered in a layer of grime. Take a wire brush and a small mirror and you should be able to get a decent look.
