INSTANT car start when cold

Hi everyone,

My car seems to have this strange starting problem. When cold, if i go to start it, LITERALLY as soon as i go to start it it starts, most times even if i blip it for just a second it starts so fast i grind the gear and it usually will stall instantly. After that, i start it up and it starts fine. I dont understand what would cause this, i have only checked TPS and its perfect, right on the dot. Im not even sure what to check next! I appreciate all help.

Congratulations
That is what everyone else is trying to achieve; the perfect , no crank start

Read the many complaints from guys who's engines crank over too long before firing up

Re: INSTANT car start when cold

Lol no, its not that. It starts up so fast that it stalls itself out. It almost seems like it has so much fuel pressure that when it starts it dumps it all in the cyls', so its starts for a second but floods it pretty much instantly. I dont really know how to describe it, thats what makes it even harder to diagnose.

So your header should be it stalls as soon as it fires up?
Do you get black smoke , fuel smell from it being too rich?
Could also stall from no fuel
Could just as easily be only firing up on the fuel from the cold start injector and then stalling from lack of fuel from the main injectors
What is your fuel pressure?

Re: INSTANT car start when cold

Well it doesnt always stall on the first try, but it does always start fast.

I get no smell of it being too rich.

I have ohmed the injectors cold and warm and they were all perfect.

I have a brand new, like 3 month old OEM fuel pump, tank, sending unit, and fuel filter. The pressure was perfect when it was checked a few monthes ago.

I had kinda forgot about that 9th injector, could i try unplugging it to see what difference it makes? Or is there a better way to check for the problem?

Re: INSTANT car start when cold

Could be leaking injectors which would let fuel into the cylinder while car was shut off.

Re: INSTANT car start when cold

I thought about that, but i dont think its that. If it was, it would probably be that way even when warm/hot, and its not.

Is there a way to check for leaky inj's? Im not sure if ohming them will tell if they leak or not.

How should I check the 9th injector? Ive never ohmed it, I guess ill try that and see what it says.

Re: INSTANT car start when cold

Well I ohmed the 9th injector like you would do the others, and it said 4.5 while cold. I dont know if thats the right way to check it, or if the 9th inj is supposed to be that low, but thats what it said. I didnt get to check it hot.

Is it supposed to be that low, or is it supposed to be about 16-20 ish like the rest?

Re: INSTANT car start when cold

Did you try starting it with the 9th injector unpluged just to see if there's a difference?

Re: INSTANT car start when cold

I havent done that yet but had planned to give it a try. Will that throw a code though? And even if its unplugged the injector can still leak right?

No
CSI has no connection to the computer;
is just a injector operated by a standalone electrical switch that only gets power when the engine is being cranked over

Correct

Ok, ill give this a try tomorrow. Is the 9th injector only supposed to be at 4.5 ohms though?
