hello all , this is my 1st time posting. this site has alot of great information. I was wondering if anyone had a clue what this sound is.
I have a 91 rs 305 all stock.

The sound file I turned up during recording the sound is al the same volume all the time.

Yes that one worked, does the noise go away or not.

the noise start when you 1st start it in the morn then does it a few time while driving then goes away, but once in a while it will appear again. also it very loud

 

Do you have an automatic or a manual transmission.

This could be the flex plate or inspection plate rubbing the flex plate. Might be something to look at. Is your starter OK.

 

iam unsure what a flex plate or inspection plate even is i will need to look that up... the starter is a new rebuilt one from napa... also had the same sound with the the other starter.

 

also the sound appears to be right around the air filter area

 

thx Edwardpg, i have read up on the flex plate and inspection plate def somthing to check. i will soon the car is dead in the water right now, dam VATS or starter solenoid flip a coin.

Could it be an accessory pully? Sounds like it to me.

 

slackett66 thx for the reply i do think i have a pully going band just unsure what one yet. when i was recording the sound i heard it right around the air fliter, its a very odd thing well to me... but for sure worth a check!

 

Turn it off....
Pull the Serpentine belt. (Make sure you know its routing and can reinstall.....)

Check the Idler/Tensioner pully... Those have been know to go bad and seize up. Spin it/rattle it...whatever...heck, try all the pullys.

If you feel any 'side play' hear rattles, grinding. Could be your culprit.

ok i went thru the list and no luck still have the dam odd sound, i believe it could be the Distributor the sound is appears to be coming from it, that will be next on the list. dose anyone know if a Distributor
can even make a sound like that???? maybe grabing at straws
