Would also like to know about the bouncing of the needle diagnostic because my car is doing that too. No bogging though

Did you try unplugging the MAP sensor and seeing if the car runs normally?

Re: engine poppin and lackin power
What about your pressure regulator? Doesn't look like your getting enough pressure. My 90 is supposed to have pressure in the low 40's, but I am getting about the same as you and it is also ver erratic. If I pinch down the fuel return line I don't get the pressure up a lot, but it steadies out the pressure real nice. I am trying to decide if it's the pump or the regulator. I really don't want to get into the pump......
Re: engine poppin and lackin power
Pinching off the return should put the pressure to 40-50psi. If your way below that then you've got a restricted feed line (plugged filter) or a weak pump (varify its getting 12 volts & a good ground).

Re: engine poppin and lackin power
im jus gonna go ahead and replace my fuel pump. when i took my filter off it had brown lookin stuff comin out. idk if the tank might have some rust so im gonna find out. the car sat for awhile due 2 me being in the military and deployed. my car is jus a toy ive had for 13yrs. i love driving it but ive had lack of power problems for awhile. but its narrowed down 2 the pump or regulator. im changin the pump 1st. so if tht dnt do it ill change the rgulator.

Re: engine poppin and lackin power
Ha! I'm gonna go the other way. I have to change the egr valve so I will already have it apart enough to do the regulator. Even if it doesn't need it, it's 22 years old at this point, can't hurt doing a new one. I think if i Have to get to the pump, I am going to have lots of other incidentals that will come on the rear end and the exhaust system....

Re: engine poppin and lackin power
i changed the fuel pump 2day. its solved the problem. it runs like it used 2. also the gauge isnt bouncin its readin around 45psi and the needle doesnt move. i dropped my tank on jack stands by myself. took bout 4hrs so its not worth cuttin ur trunk like alot of people do. im still goin 2 put a new regulator on it then everything will b new.

Re: engine poppin and lackin power
Great to hear. I have to say I'm a little intimidated to drop the tank. I think my exhaust will fall apart when I go to take it off and I've never messed with the rear end at all. Pretty sure I'm gonna be there eventually though!

Re: engine poppin and lackin power
its not as hard as people make it sound. mine had 3inch pipie ran with no conveters. i had 2 cut it off in front of the axle. all u have 2 do is unbolt the upper and lower panhard bars and the shocks. drop the rear down enough 2 pull the pass side coil. then the 2 heat shields. once u get the 2 straps off the tank ull have 2 bend the neck jus a lil and itll slide right out towards the pass side. its nowhere near as bad as people say. i did it myself in 4hrs. ive had my rear end out a few times messin with diff gear ratios its not bad either.
