GM Sealant #1052914 or 1052917

The Service Manual calls for the use of these sealants "to the front cover and cylinder block junction and rear seal retainer and cylinder block junction." (6A3-25)

I plan to use the Felpro one-piece rubber gasket. Would it still be wise to use this sealant as prescribed? Also, is this sealant available at the dealer or has the part number been superseded? Any equivalent Permatex or Locktite brands? Thanks.

Thanks, but I believe this is the "right stuff." The original part number has been superseded numerous times according to the dealer. A 2.65 Oz. tube of #88864346 lists for $15.72. It is white in color.

Ya know, GM doesn't make most of what they sell; they buy it from the people who do... like Permatex.

Thanks. I understand what you're saying. I should have stated in my original post that this is for an oil pan gasket. When I search the Permatex link to "Choose The Right Stuff Gasket Maker," it leaves me guessing as to the correct application. I didn't see any products that state the substance is white. For $15, I feel better now that I don't have to guess.

white
And that is important because ..... ??

Maybe I'm all wet here, but I always thought the critical thing would be, does it keep the oil in.

The right "Right Stuff" is the can on the shelf at the store. That part is pretty straightforward.

But hey, if you want to pay 4 times as much for something that isn't any better than the other, that's OK too; won't bother me at all.

This is on the shelf at my store. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...N-25y8Z1z141rv

I don't see any of "The Right Stuff" selling for anywhere near 1/4 of what I paid; So I got the GM specified sealant. I know it won't bother you.

It's OK if it's even less.
