Temperamental car
So first off I bought my car about a month ago. It's a 1992 camaro rs. V6 3.1
It idles anywhere from 1100- 1400 which seems way to high for me. It runs good after it warms up but the idle is still always high lowest I've ever seen it was 800 and it was only for a couple seconds. Yes the check engine light is on I bought a code reader and it should be here tomorrow. The guy I bought it from said there was a problem with the computer. I went to pick up my girlfriend, and the car was running perfect. When I got a block away from home it died and wouldn't restart, I waited 2 minutes and tried again then decided to push it the one block. I went out a couple hours later and it started right up. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Temperamental car
a code reader is a waste of money jumper the aldl a to b terminal. a high idle would be caused by a faulty or dirty iac, vacuum leak or throttle blade binding.

Re: Temperamental car
propaine enrichment or spray carb and choke cleaner around the throttlebody mounting surface and around the plenum and manifold to cylinder heads.

Re: Temperamental car
Oh yeah. Also after driving for a while it doesn't want to leave after stoping. I drove for 10 miles and when I stopped at the light it was real skittish and acted like it wasn't getting much gas. It does this pretty much every trip I've drove in this car.

Re: Temperamental car
Get your codes.
Find the gizzy that sends them, and test or replace the gizzy as your abilities and budget will allow.
Intermittent gremlin problems can often be something as simple as a bad ground connection.

Re: Temperamental car
I'm planning on changing the fuel filter once the 13 inches of snow we just got melts, because I don't have a garage. And I just scanned for codes but because its been parked for a couple days nothing came up. Ill drive it around and check it again once the snow is gone.
