Just got my car today.

Everything was going great until we stopped for gas. Started right up and put into gear then stalled in when pulling out.

We pushed it back into the gas station, waited 30 seconds then it started and drove just fine.

Several hours later after cooling off it does the same thing. Start it and idle while warming up, but if you drive off within 3 minutes it stalls. However, if you let it warm up it is just fine.

The car is a 85 Iroc auto.

I need to fix the hood mechanism, this stalling, the rear brakes and needs seat belts.

Update: Does this when engine is cold. It is currently 24 degrees outside.

Wont idle on its own when cold started; have to stay on throttle for about four-five minutes. Then everything is fine.

Starting to think it is the IAC or a vacuum leak.

Any ideas?

 

My car does that too, but I have a carburetor. I would thing (assuming you have efi?) that a combination of the extreme cold and old parts are to blame. Unless you have a carburetor, in that case, it's just the nature of the beast.

 

Yes it is efi.

I called a local mechanic my wife's family knows and have used him in the past for custom drive shaft work.

He thinks it is iac or vacuum leak as well. Due to a winter storm heading in this weak we are probably going to drive it out to him for a vacuum leak test on Thursday.

Also finally got my hood opened.

 

Hm, sounds interesting, I'm lost on efi, hope the mechanic figures it out for ya!

 

Looked at my throttle body today and sprayed some cleaner on it. That seemed to help a little bit. It is very disgusting, and never seen one this dirty before.

My wife followed me for speedometer tests, would appear that it needs calibrated. Anyways, she said I was running very rich.

 

If you're running rich, check the 02 sensors and such, might be bad.

 

Probably should have mentioned that it is displaying a check engine light.

Looking into it further it appears that the cats were removed when they installed the new exhaust system.

 

Have you tried running a fuel system cleaner through it?
