Running but look at this firing order
Running but look at this firing order
Ok got the V8 305 1987 firebird.
Start and runs rough. So I did cap, rotor, plugs and wire ran a bit better. So I put the wires on the cap in the right firing order. (1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2) Wont start. Put back (to PIC added) check with timing light way off but runs. What else should I try and can someone tell me how this firing order would work in PIC.(1,6,4,3,8,5,7,2)
THANK You for your help and info

Re: Running but look at this firing order
My brother had the same issue and is actually why he got rid of the car in the end. We could not figure out the correct firing order. I tried the usual 18436572, but that backfired through the carb, starting a little flame in the carb.
When I removed his wires (the car ran fine), when I put them back on I did the above firing order and it backfired. Since we didn't look at how they came off, we never got it running again. Backfire, backfire, backfire. I'll be watching this thread. Since I changed the wires, I need to know what happened. It ran fine, then didn't.

Re: Running but look at this firing order
I'd suggest disconnecting the EST and set base timing first.
I've swapped adjoining cylinder wires by accident before, and the engine would still fire up.

Re: Running but look at this firing order
Did it run before you got it? What did you do to it? You need to put the wires in the right order and make sure the distributor is in correctly. Point the rotor at number 1 and see if number 1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke.

Ok got it running good not great with no backfire though the carb.
Here is what we did.
1. Fix spring on heads (a few off) plus one nut for piston 8 was off.
2. swapped 6 and 8 on cap.
3. Redoing the distributor (out 1 to 3 teeth) so timing mark is at 0
Will get update tomorrow after done distributor. But it is running better then before
