Heated O2 sensor question

I see this heated O2 sensor adaptor on ebay, but I need help understanding how it works. Do those leads connect to the battery? And does this adaptor just plug into a standard O2 sensor and heat it up faster? And is that another plug there, or just the junction of all the wiring? Cant tell from the pic, but it has to tie into the ecm somehow to keep the idiot light from coming on.

Re: Heated O2 sensor question

I think That the plug with the white wire goes to the harness connector for the standard 02 sensor. The black connector goes to the heated 02 sensor. The black wre goes to ground and the red wire goes to a circuit that's 'hot when running'.

Re: Heated O2 sensor question

Ok, so you need an actual different O2 sensor then? So then black could be attached to the frame or block, and red to the red battery or alt cable? Sorry for all the dumb questions, my knowledge is growing but still in rookie stage. Lol Thx!

Re: Heated O2 sensor question

Yup. Need a 3 wire heated 02 sensor. The stock 1 wire non heated 02 won't become heated with that harness.

Re: Heated O2 sensor question

Yea. A different sensor is needed. The Black wire can go to frame. The Red wire needs to go to a circuit that is only energized when the key is in the ON/RUN position. If you connect it to the battery or alt cable, then the sensor will always get power which means it will always be hot and will eventually drain your battery.

Ok, that'd be good to know! So what hot when running is in that area and easy to access? The fuel pump fuse is up there near the battery, but Id just as soon not mess with that, although I guess you have to tap into something. I'm just leary of cutting into wiring.... Anything less critical in that area? Lol

Does the coolant fan work for you? Just think of the different things that you can turn on when the key is in the 'ON' position. One of those ought to be just dandy.

Re: Heated O2 sensor question

Well, I thought of that, but also thought then that the heater would only work when the fan kicks on. So then the fan circuit is always hot when running, but does not actually engage the fan til the relay closes? In that case, youd want to tap in BEFORE the relay right?

Re: Heated O2 sensor question

What are the benefits of a heated O2 Sensor? I never had a problem with my stock 1 wire..just curious.

02 will go closed loop faster and stay in closed loop, even during extended idle.
