coolant temp
o2 sensor
cap and rotor
plugs and wires
icm
pick up coil
radio frequency compactor
coil
swapped injectors with different ones
swapped computers
3 new maf sensors
maf relays

Re: need help or parting the car

i did about a month ago before the surging problem ever started.. its always hesitated.. the last few time i let it run is when it started the surging. it will do it till it dies and if im driving and push the clutch in it dies also. i didnt do an extreme search for leaks though. i felt like i heard one then but could never find it and i ran out of brake cleaner.. i feel like its more than that.

well if you said you think there was a vacuum leak and never found it thats exactly where you should start. find that vacuum leak and any other vacuum leaks you may have. do it thoroughly so when you are done you know 100% sure there are no vacuum leaks then go from there

Re: need help or parting the car

Checked timing? Checked fuel pressure? Possibly a leak from intake manifold or runners/plenum etc. And check your TPS!!!

Always fix what you know is wrong first.Use carb cleaner or starting fluid for vacuum leaks,Just be careful.

did you get a NEW MAF?? or a re-man POS from auto zone? if you did. THERES your problem. and the MAF relays?? auto zone again? if so .let me say this . you cannot expect it to run right buying cheap parts. if you like ,I can post up the correct part numbers for these very important components. let me know

Re: need help or parting the car

i work at oreily auto parts so i get mad discount. i went through three mafs two a1 cardone and now a bwd 'borg warner' when i checked the tps it had a very small spot i didnt think was right but when i say small i mean small. i had it off the car so i was measuring resistance . it hit a point where instead of increasing it dropped buy about .02 ohms and then jumped to normal. this was in about a 3 degree rotation. also just checked the fuel pressure it was 42 at key turn never bled off. 33 to 34 at idle and wot it is 42 to 43. when it starts surging after 20 minutes of idling and warming up the pressure never changes once not even when its about to die. the fuel pump is new.. actually all the parts i listed have maybe 148 miles on them. the icm, distributor cap and coil have been swapped twice. is it a problem that it has an 86 style distributor and still has automatic prom? also timing is prefect i just set that when i did the pick up coil

Re: need help or parting the car

also its been about -5 degrees for awhile so i havent been checking the vacuum leaks if it has any. its been awhile since i drove my other camaro i cant remember if its normal when you have the heat on hot that it sounds like its sucking air really bad from the controls.

i was given a set of explorer injectors they are orange 19 pounders . do you guys know if they will work? i heard the for injectors are more reliable. only problem is when i compare the two the ford ones are a little shorter from oring to oring

yupp running the BWD now. and these ford injectors are the skinny ones not the big fat ones. i used to get all kinds of maf codes.. swapped everything out and now i have no more codes and no more ideas. i think when i put the ford injectors in ill do the lower intake gaskets as well since ill be there and i get them for like five dollars.

look, I bought a "rich-porter" MAF from oreilleys . its a NEW one not a re- man . and regardless what the box may be labeled .when you buy a re-man MAF its coming from "A 1 cardone". since I went through more cheap *** MAFs than I care to admit I finally bought a new one and since I did, NO MORE MAF issues. now your TPS giving anything less than a smooth linear reading is a problem too.when and if you get these two things fixed. it probably will run right

ill have to see if i can get that one i had to special order the BWD and for some reason i got it cheaper than cardone. i was hoping i was done with mafs. at this point i wish it was a map car i have no problems with my other camaro. do you think the heater control sucking in air is normal?

no , but its a common enough problem. its not too hard to fix either. there should be NO vaccum leaks anywhere, obviously. they play he$# with the ability for a MAF car to accurately meter air. so go over it and make sure there are none. I buy BWD select MAF relays .both for the power and burn off at oreilleys. IMHO they are the best out there . I have a 86 IROC that is a MAF car. and finally mines trouble free. it does take quite a lot of preparation and studying to get them right. I must admit, if it were not for a factory service manual and TGO. my car would probably still be a yard ornament. as for the auto PROM in a 5 speed car. that may be a problem . contact "tuned performance" here and consult with him. he is the best . and from one owner to another ,don't give up and buy a ford !! keep at it ,and good luck

Re: need help or parting the car

so BWD offers a brand new maf should i try this or only run rich-porter. they both look way different than the one i have.. looks like it has a circuit board inside it. also i thinking about getting the 88 style distributor from rich- porter... i can get it for 66 bucks and warranty return all the stuff i bought for the other distributor so it will be even cheaper. i also got my new throttle body in the mail so i can swap tps sensors from my other camaro because i know it works. wish i was done with the maf on this car. i will never get another maf camaro lol its the most expensive maf i have seen.

no, stay away from any MAF that is not a new "rich-porter". its a once and done kinda deal.and yes they are made different from the el cheapos. but if your distributor is working ,why change it?

Re: need help or parting the car

i was gonna change the distributor because it is the old style with the coil on top when the car and computer should be running the separate coil distributor. and im not positive that its working correctly. i feel as though timing is getting cut or spark is not happening at times. and i can get the brand new rich porter one for pretty cheap and know that its not the problem.

also do you know if in fact the explorer injectors will work. again they are the skinny ones that i think are a eighth inch shorter from o ring to o ring or you could say the original is longer by the thickness of an o ring.

I would not pollute my car with anything ford. if you need injectors give "south bay" a shout. get some bosch 3s and be done. and yes the 88 came with the small distributor with separate coil. I would change it ,if for no other reason to have the car as much like its supposed to be as possible
