Horrible Clanking sound.
This sound shows up when braking lightly and it starts around 25 mph to about 10 mph, and then goes away. But the last time I drove it I slowed down, it started to make the noise, and now it will not go away. Also if you slam on the brakes, hard braking, it wont make the noise. Im thinking it needs a major overhaul on the brakes, which only makes sense. Also, the noise comes from the rear.
I think Ill put the car on blocks tomorrow and see where exactly where the noise is coming from.
Any info or suggestions where to look would be great.
Thanks

whassup in Paris!
Do you retain power brakes?? Is the sound coming from eng compartment or wheels/ Front or Rear. Does it pull either side?Could be as simple as low brake fluid to worn/ faded pads or even a messed up booster. You lose power assist at idle, but you can be moving 10 mph and idle simultaneously. Put it in 1st gear and try that 25 to 10 bit again. If it stops making noise at maybe 5 mph or so check all vacuum lines going to the booster and go from there. Good Luck!

Sup in Abilene?
Well the fluid level is correct. Im positive the noise is coming from the rear of the car. Im pretty sure I have pwr. brakes still, can you tell this way?, when you press the brake the idle goes up a little bit right. So, also there is no pulling or any kind of shimmy or anything like that.
The sound is awful, kinda like banging two frying pans together, if you know what I mean. I was wondering if it could be a U-Joint cracked up or something. Just need to get under the darn thing, it wont fix itself, but the car took a back seat to football and beer today, so I'm just a lazy **** I guess.

my car had a similar noise on my 72. My wheel clyinder or something like that was bad. It was nasty looking. Its after you take off a front wheel and the little cap in the center. It cost me a whole $20
