how fast

sorry i'm not sure were to post this. does anyone know what a totally stock 1984 camaro z28 would run the 1/4 mile in. it is a totally stock L69 with a 5 speed and 373 gears. see, i'm 16 years old and i have not been able to bring to the track. my friend has a done up 86 442 that runs 16.2. so i'm think'n i'll run something like 16.7.

i have a 84 TA, stock 305 in it,, it will probly not see no better than a 17.0.....i beat a supposable 17'sec altima with it, so this is what im basing my numbers on. havent ran it at the track, dont want to get imbarrased! thats y in spring, a vette 355 is goin in it! im guessing you can pull a 16.7 out of it.

p.s....my cars also a LG4 auto...engine is all stock, but tranny has a shift kit in it.

An L69 has 40 more horsepower than an LG4 does stock. You should be in the mid 15s. A 442 running 16s is sad.

i highly dout youll run 15's. this summer at the strip i saw 2 89-92ish TAs go at it, both ran 15's. a stock 84 will not run 15's.....ill give it a 16.3 at best.

What do you base that time on? Just because it is newer doesn't mean it's faster. If they ran 15s thats fine.. both the L03 and LB9 would run 15s stock. The L03 has 170 horsepower, 20 LESS than the L69. Ontop of that it has terrible rear end gears; this L69 has 3.73s. L69s are faster than tbi cars.

all of the factory tests of the L69 have been in the 15's. i have a test with the 86 iroc L69 that ran 15.4 in the magazine. so, drive it hard and beat him.

Re: how fast

I currently own a stock 84 z28 305 H.O. Camaro. They're quicker than 17's. I'b be willing to be I could pull some of the IROCS with the 350's out there. The 3.73 rear end and t-5 makes this car pretty quick despite it's 190 hp. Actually, If you read the 84 article on the main page, if you run 93 octane in it, supposedly the knock sensor advances the timing giving the car 200hp. I've ran the 8th mile one time and pulled a 9.7 with a .9311 reaction time, 71.54mph. Would have been faster, but I'm running crappy tires. 215/65/r15 I think, general Exclaims. HORRIBLE TIRE. Beat the Lexus beside me. Anyways, you definitely got one of the only 305's worth having. The l-69 also has better heads than any other 305 put in a thirdgen stock. Keep it and run the dog **** out of it.
