Very Stupid Question. What way do I turn this bolt?

I have an 88 305, serpintine. Changing water pump, the bolts on the pulley are being a pain in the a--. Which way lossens them towards the drivers side or pass when looking stright at them.
Its almost to the point where I am just going to buy a new pulley, where would I get one of those, all the part sites dont show them and what are the odds of them having the bolts also?
Thanks

The bolts turn counterclockwise. I'd go ahead and replace them anyways, they can be found at any parts store, they're labeled something like "water pump pulley bolt kit" (no joke). They are a major pain, though.

word of advice ... most bolts and nuts in the car (except wheel nuts in some puegots and fiats) have a clockwise tighten and counterclockwise losen...
thats a universal way

The only bolts in the car that should be left hand thread are the bolts that hold the differential ring gear onto the carrier.

The bolts that hold the fan motor on are also a left-handed thread; they're the only left handed thread I've come across on my f-bod so far. Actually, the serp water pumps don't use the old style water pump studs, they have actual bolts. The easiest way to loosen/tighten them is to have the water pump on the car with the belt still installed. That way the pulley won't turn as easy when you try to bust em loose.

I have heard the saying: clock to lock. Once you have done a certain number of bolts it becomes second nature. And you will find that everything threaded follows this pattern: lids, pipes, even the toilet, though it's not treaded.

In the southern hemispere huricanes flow the opposite way. That's why they are typhoons. Rotation of the earth, or something to that effect.

Yea I remember from high school autoshop class about some cars having lug nuts that tighten the opposit way so that they wouldn't loosen.

There was also something about left handed screwdrivers for use in the southern hemisphere but I'm not sure I believe that one.

Toilet bowls..they're probably designed to rotate a certain way by pointing the toilet "jets" to make a swirling effect (either cc or ccw...) The coriolois (sp?) effect is what you all are talking about. It is very small compared to the power of the toilet, so it wont really make any difference which way you make it swirl and in which hemisphere. The best way to see this coriolios effect in action is to let your bathtub drain. It will drain cc on our hemisphere and the other way in the southern hemisphere. Oh, lets keep this on topic hehe.

SC stands for Sport Coupe. They used to make a Camaro SC.

I find it very funny that you guys are talking about Toilet bowls in the Tech/General engine board.

Actually, just to be a nitpick, the flush lever on a toilet is reverse threaded.

Another point of interest is that if you're on the equator, the water swirls neither direction... it goes straight down. How many people knew that piece of trivia?

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Most of the Mopars in the sixties/early seventies had left-threaded lugnuts on one side, and right-threaded on the other (don't ask me which side was which )

I've heard that the water doesn't swirl at the equator.. but I've never been there..

since we're talking about screws, I'm beginning to wonder if some of y'alls screws are threaded at all!

Kidding of course, please don't ignore my questions! I'm new!

Well im glad to see my topic has sparked such a conversation, but:

Ok I figured they were left loose, but unfortanly that is the way the water pump turns so having it in the car did not help trying to take them off, couldnt wedge it still.
But a new pulley from gm is like $25 so I am taking the easy way out and buying a new pulley and bolts.
Thanks again.
