Probably used 200 of them in the shop.

Re: suggested fuel pump 91; tpi

The Walbro 255 is a nice pump but it's loud. Threw mine in the trash after a month. I couldn't stand the noise!! For a driver I'd never suggest it. For a racecar application, sure.

Delphi makes quality pumps.

I have no experience with the Deatschwerks DW200. If your car is a stock application I don't see any reason to go overboard on pump capacity.

that's wat I'm thinking as well.. I'm not sure if the pump is even gone at this point as it does cut in when the key is turned but we are not sure if it cuts out after starting. I know that https://www.summitracing.com/int/par...model/firebird looks like a stock tpi pump.

For a stock application Delphi and Denso are the brands I'd trust. I've swapped pumps too many times. Most brands do not last, including Delco (had one die on me).

DELPHI FE0110 (good $)

DENSO 9515014 (better $$)

DENSO being a huge Japanese OEM manufacturer. They make the factory pumps for many cars.

However, don't order anything until you do full diagnostics. Get a fuel pressure gauge and slap it on.. check or replace fuel filter if pressure is low, all that.

Yes you always change the strainer.

DELPHI FS0177 / DENSO 9520094 are strainers

thanks for your help.. its appreciated... now here comes the million dollar question.... do I change the pump from the top... or do I do the longer route and drop the tank from underneath?

There is only one correct way to change the pump; drop the tank. It's not that hard, and I can arguably have it done faster than someone trying to cut a hole properly and hacking up the sending unit.

Cutting metal brake lines and patching them with rubber line is waiting for a leak/fire to happen.

Re: suggested fuel pump 91; tpi

yeah the local garage will be changing out the pump if it comes to that and I'm leaning to dropping the tank.. makes more sense.

If it's a garage they'll follow book procedure (drop the tank)

I used the Delphi pump in my 305 TPI from Auto Zone. Super happy with it. Extremely quiet and at a good price.

Re: suggested fuel pump 91; tpi

I thought the walbro 255 is what Holley and other aftermarket companies re-brand as their own. Ive had a walbro 255 and a Holley (again, I think it's a re-branded walbro) both go bad. Dyno Don suggests a GM pump for one of the turbo truck /suvs like the cyclone. I can't recall the GM part number right now but it's worked perfect behind my supposed 400 horse 383s for many years.

If the sending unit is rusty on top, fuel level sender doest work.. etc.. then yea.

Mine was good so it was re-used. Specra makes a replacement.
