New twist on the motor mount problem
Hi All,
I need to change my motor mounts which after a lot of reading have found it is going to be a pain in the ***.
To add to that, I have to remove the motor mount brackets as I put them on the wrong sides not knowing there were separate sides...
Given this new complication, and having the cut access holes / use multiple sockets / or go in from the A-arms methods, is there one that would favour me also removing the brackets from the block and swapping them over?
I was thinking of loosening the trans cross member bolts and letting it sit a bit, then hoisting the motor up with a engine hoist, pull the bolts from the mounts and then jack it up a bit more to see if I can get it high enough to access the bolts on the block and do the switcharoo that way?
Will that work, and which way should i go for the mounts themselves?

I don't think it should be that bad for you. The labor guide states 2.0hr for both front engine mounts.
I think you're onto the right track on somehow jacking the engine up by hoist where you can keep an eye on the distributor so it doesn't hit the firewall as opposed to jacking the engine up from underneath while it's up in the air.

I have no motor and the suspension is completely out of my car still took me an hour to remove the old motor mounts. Those of you that have replaced motor mounts with the engine and suspension in the car deserve the ultimate Master Mechanic award. What a pain in the crotch!

I had to modify the trans member for the 4l60e mount to work so I've still got motor mount brackets on the wrong way with very shoddy rubbers.
I'll giv it a try next month and see if I have any success, but good work on yours.

Didn't strike me as being all that difficult. The labor guide is of course for us guys doing it on a lift. 2 hours is probably about right. Was probably more than that for the urethane mounts with the grinding of the rivets and such to reuse the clam shells. It was a Sunday morning while watching cartoons.
