Alternator bolt part number?

Hello,

I was doing maintenance on my car and was replacing the alternator. The lower bolt (size T45 head) that held the alternator in now missing (yep, lost it) and now I'm trying to find a replacement bolt.
Does anyone happen to remember that particular GM part number for the lower bolt? Its for a 91 Z28 350. I'd appreciate any help.

I could look it up, but I can say with certainty they're long since discontinued.

Re: Alternator bolt part number?

I went to one of the Chevy dealerships here in town and they were able to look up the part number for me (gm part 11514462), and yes, it’s unfortunately discontinued. Not quite sure what Im gonna do now. I’m gonna have to see if something similar can be found, or if I can find one online somewhere or have a machinist fabricate one for me.

If you find some that would be awesome. Let me know and I’ll buy them from you.

Is this the one that goes through the alternator into the engine block? Threading is 3/8-16, should be able to get a hardware store bolt that will work. Measure from where the outer is to the inside and add 3/4-1 inch extra and call it a day.

Yea, I stopped by a Pep Boys and Home Depot with no luck. I will try again a couple of other stores in the area I’m in.

Re: Alternator bolt part number?

Seems like it would be fairly simple to measure what you need and just order a pack from some place like this. https://www.mcmaster.com/screws/roun...d-head-screws/

Thanks, I’ll check out the site. Here is a picture just in case anyone is curious. GM listed it as a generator mounting bolt.

Re: Alternator bolt part number?

Jump on Google, do a search for the GM performance parts serpentine setup pdf. The instruction sheet has the size of all the bolts and more modern part numbers that arent exactly the same as 88-92 bolts, but which will work. You might still need to source the bolt from the aftermarket since even some of the numbers from the still current kit are NLA.

The only one of the bolts that goes thru an accessory into the block is one of the smog pump bolts. The rest only go thru the brackets or thread into the brackets.

Good news everyone,

I found a replacement bolt. I looked up the 350 crate engine and went down to the dealership and low and behold, they had it in stock. I ended up getting an AC Delco alternator while I was there. The new bolt fits like a glove. Thanks everyone for all your help.

In case anyone gets into the same situation, part number is 11588749. Hopefully this can help.

Cool. Most of the time you're the bug, but once in awhile you get to be the windshield.
