1991 firebird 305 egr issues

I have done searches through the forum and Google and keep finding egr solutions. I have an egr and get the egr code when driving on the highway it's a soft code. My issue is my egr and the PO egr were just vacuum and no wire connection, also no matter where I look I can't find a solenoid pigtail or vacuum lines to one. Am I missing something with the 1991 305 tpi and how the egr works that is different than all the posts I'm finding.

The only 2 vacuum lines back there go into the firewall.
Nothing looks cut or fabricated on the harness. And the only pigtail back in that area goes to the map sensor. Everything else looks factory

Re: 1991 firebird 305 egr issues

The lines that went to the egr solenoid started under the drivers side of the throttle body. To the egr solenoid then from solenoid to egr. Have to pull the plenum to install properly.
if you in a non emissions area just do a reprogram of your chip to delete the function and 32 error.

Re: 1991 firebird 305 egr issues

Ok I found the solenoid (it was sitting under the distributor against the engine) and I happen to pull one from a scrap yard with pigtail. Will this work for the tpi? It was off a 92 tbi

Thanks for the help I thought it was near the map sensor didn't even think to look near the harness at the back by the distributor.

Should be sandwiched between the coil bracket if you had the right bracket/solenoid.

The one I picked up has a bracket so hopefully it'll be useful then all I need is new vacuum lines

DORMAN 47418 Tubing Dia.: 5/32" or soft rubber line will work.
if you find the original connector much cleaner to unpin and use the other connector instead of cutting and splicing. Listle has a tool for terminal release or a round release tool is cheap on eBay.

Re: 1991 firebird 305 egr issues

When I had code 32 on my TPI it only triggered at highway cruising speed and was exactly as you described being a soft code with no other issues other than the CEL coming on. I went through the entire system and what cured it was a new EGR temp sensor, only issue is its not made anymore for F bodys but you can get one from several Corvette parts places on eBay. The only difference between the parts is the Corvette one has a much shorter wire so you have to splice into the original.
