88 gta valve adjustment question

I have valve or valves in my pass side valve cover tucking pretty bad
I'm scared to drive it
when you rev it it ticks
When I put the engine back together I followed the Haynes manual
and my question is
if it's at tdc 1
how do I do the rest of the valves
if I spin crank 1/4 turn or do I just watch for the rockers to be flat
how do you know I'm srry ppl
I'm just frusterated

There are many guides on how to adjust the rockers out there. You just need to make sure the lifter is off the cam lobe and on the base circle when you check the lash and adjust the nut

Re: 88 gta valve adjustment question

It will still be very helkpful to have infomaton on the valve train. Cam profile including duration and lift, rocker style, hyrdaulic or solid lifters, roller or flat (in case of retrofit), standard or high-bleed lifters, self-aligning or guided push rods/rockers, spring rate, etc.

Re: 88 gta valve adjustment question

LT1 or LT4 "hot" cam? The common one was the LT4. Either way, the lift/duration and roller design made the ramps fairly sharp. Do you know the valve spring specifications?

Fully rollerized rockers can be a bit more noisy due to tip and trunion needle bearing lash. Aluminum can make that even more noisy.

Self-alinging rockers probably eliminate push rod interferenece and drag, but with aftermarket heads that is NEVER a certainty. Check for any rubbing or interference.

Are the lifters standard factory rollers?

it's a factory 350 4 bolt 92 truck gmc
1 piece rms roller cam
and I did check the clearance in the heads
don't worry
they are not touching

Re: 88 gta valve adjustment question

The best way to adjust valves is the EOIC method to be sure the lobe is on it's base. When the exhaust begins to open adjust the intake valve on that cylinder. The rotate the engine by hand until the intake valve starts to close that is when you adjust the exhaust. You say you have 1.6 rockers, did you check all clearance and how the rocker travels on the valve tip? Did you use stock length pushrods or did you check pushrod length and rocker to valve geometry?
As far as adjusting hydraulics at the base of the lobe loosen the adjuster. Then spin the pushrod in your fingers as you slowly tighten the adjuster. As soon as you feel the tension on it and the pushrod stops spinning in your fingers that is zero lash, then tighten the appropriate preload adjustment.
