It is 2022 Who does PROM tuning ??
I used a gentleman some time ago and he has since retired.
Who can do tuning now? No I don't want to learn, i want to send my chip out and have it come back 'ready to go'
Is there anyone doing this anymore, or is the 0411 swap the way to go in today's world?
thank you

*an early fuel injected vehicle lol. Or go buy something newer, or install a new commonly supported efi system
sad to say thats really the only options if you cant find someone local. And imo and experience mail order tunes just dont work properly. Really hit or miss.

Any tune shop worth its weight should be dyno tuning and street driving tuning. Thats how we do it. Need the car for a couple days to get cold starts, drivability, etc down. Wot is usually done in couple pulls. It aint hard. The driver manners can be

Hmm, go to a 3rd gen site and ask who does tuning on 3rd gen PROMs and get treated like a dipshit.
Thanks fuqrs.
Now, back to the original post, IS there anyone doing actual 3rd gen tuning anymore. OR is it all up to you to get ancient technology and learn to program PROMs like they did back int he 1700s?

What cam did you use?
I'm not sure about local guys since I'm not in your area... but if the cam isn't that radical, and you kept the TPI manifold, the tune would probably be very straightforward.

keep in mind though, without a WB O2 and ability to datalog, you won't really know what your power enrichment and open loop fueling is really doing with tuning remotely.
that's one of benefits of a local shop that has access to a chassis dyno and the ability to measure actual AFR.
With "mail order tuning" the more information you can feed back to the tuner about how the car is responding, the better the odds. Given the time/money/effort into swapping in a 383, I'd probably at least invest in a WB O2. You can also go so far as to feed that O2 data back into the ECM such that it can be reported out in a datalog via Tunerpro, but that's not a trivial effort to get that set up.
At least seeing the WB O2 sensor in real time and being able to report back to the tuner if you're seeing AFR's in the 12:1 range or 14:1 range or that level of fidelity would definitely be far better than flying blind.
Edit... I just looked at your build thread. Looks like you maintained the TPI, so that's good for the tune simplicity. Just couldn't find info on your cam.

Buddy of mine has a 88 IROC. 383, AFR heads, 10.5:1 or 11:1 compression, cant remember the cam but it was in the 230 @ .050 range. 6 speed stick car. He had it tuned YEARS ago (chip). The car NEVER ran right. He was about do an LS swap (which I was all for honestly) but I told him to try the EFI Connections 24x swap. He did and the car runs the best its ever had. He did the 383 over 10 years ago. Now he ACTUALLY DRIVES IT! LOl!. Another buddy has a 96 Z28. 383, LE heads, cam, 4L60E, 4.11 gears, stall, blah blah blah. . After several LT1 Edit tunes and tuners, he swapped to an 0411 24x setup. Needless to say, after I tuned it, he loves it.
Make the swap. You wont regret it. Good luck finding someone who still tinkers with chips. That is truly a lost art.

I've tuned a couple of EFI Connections 24x 0411 swapped cars. A TPI setup and a Gen II LT1. The ability to log and tune these setups using modern and real time software (HP Tuners) is LIGHT YEARS ahead of how it used to be. I've never done chip tuning myself but I've seen how its done and its a royal PITA. Also, the engines seem to run a lot better.

This was the first startup using a tune modified to delete the VATS, added a little timing, a little bump in idle speed and base idle air flow, a Lingenfelter 4" MAF flow calibration and the injector flow modified for the 48 lb/hr spider.

Re: It is 2022 Who does PROM tuning ??
yes sir thats what ill be doing.
I have a built engine, and the dampener is too thick to use the EFI/vortec timing cover, so most likely going to use a msd wheel on the damper and the vortec distributor.
ill post up when i get it together..
thanks
