Random gas smell
I'm having a random gas smell when it's warmer outside, doesn't happen all the time, but yesterday I had a 1/4 tank of gas, parked it in the garage and went upstairs, later I could smell gas, backed it out of the garage let it sit outside til dark, took the cap off and let the pressure out of the tank, parked back in the garage and had no gas smell this morning. Filled the tank and drove to a picnic, no gas smell, driving home at stoplights in traffic I could smell gas, I parked it in the outside garage tonight. Could this be the tank vent down by the axle being defective? Gas cap? I didn't really smell it up front but I guess it could be, I had the AC on with windows up. When I changed my injectors I made sure I had no leaks.
Re: Random gas smell
I had a similar problem with my 85 TPI. I changed the filter in the bottom of the charcoal canister with a new one along with my gas cap and haven't had a gas smell since. I am not saying that is the problem by any means but it did help me. My filter in the canister had never been changed in the 30 plus years I have had the car and it was almost like cardboard.... A good cheap place to start though.

Cool where do I find these filters? Rock auto etc?
Re: Random gas smell
Could be more than just the filter... could be that the charcoal in the cannister is getting saturated and can't absorb any more fuel vapors.
In which case youd have to rebuild it with new charcoal as i dont know if they sell new cannisters anymore.
There's a thread here thay shows how to do it if you search on it. I recently did it myself and it is pretty straightforward

Re: Random gas smell
Liquidblue did a really nice write up rebuilding the charcoal canister with readily available parts from Rockauto as well linked here https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...ter-purge.html
I would also check the valve by the tank too, I took mine all apart and cleaned it up and that solved the problem but I eventually replaced it with the Hawks reproduction which is good quality. When my valve by the tank started acting up the car made a weird moo sound randomly.
