strong smell of gas
I have noticed for quite some time when i got my car that there is always a strong smell of gas coming from the gas tank. I mean you can just walk past the back and smell gas. I thought well it is a gas tank so just blew it off. Now i cam kinda of concerned that it is still there. I don't see any leaks but wondering why the hell it smells like this?

Here's a simple test. The gas tank is under pressure (14 psi if I remember correctly), so drive it around for a while. Then unscrew the gas cap. There should be a hiss as the pressure is released. If not, I'd say there is a problem. I know there was a recall from Chevy regarding the 1992 Camaro fuel tank, it could also include the 1990.
It could be several things. The filler neck could be cracked, a faulty gasket, or a problem with the tank itself are a few possibilities. You should never smell gas and if you do, get it fixed ASAP. Its the fumes that ignite. Hope this helps.

could be a problem with the charcole canister too, it's supose to be a vent of sorts for the fuel system. sometimes they get saturated with fuel and quit working. give it a shake and you can hear the fuel in it if it's bad.

Charcoal canister is under the hood... so I don't think that is your problem.
Unless I'm totally off in space land here... it is that canister under the hood that looks like an old fashioned coffee pot.

I had this problem when I first bought my car. I got under there and the rubber hose coming off the tank had slipped off the tube. Apparently they didn't clamp this at the factory, its just slipped on.
i had the same problem with my 92 rs, i called on the recall thing and they said that there wasnt any open claims, but from what a friend had told me is that the recalls drop off after 10yrs. so just by luck i got a parts car and was looking around under the car by the gas tank and noticed that there was a little (spinning top) looking thing attached to a line that was coming from the tank. Im not sure what u would call this filter but I took the one from the parts car and put it on my car and my gas smell has gone away, it also seems to have better pressure when i open the tank it fill it up. Can someone help and saying what the proper name is of the filter (spinning top looking thing). i just figured that i would let u know what i did to get rid of my strong gas smell. ssean92

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that recalls go away regardless of time, owner or miles.
