New Member! Thud knocking sound on acceleration

Hello all! New to the pontiac/camaro 3rd gen community. Recently found an extremely clean pontiac trans am gta with 94,000 from the og owner. Original paint and everything. Paint is faded which my father and I are willing to experiment with vinyl wrap. Nardo Gray. Hopefully that goes well! Engine and trans are perfect too. (Automatic)
Anyway I was with some buddies and I could not resist doing some burnouts and donuts. As I am doing a burnout, I went over this large bump and I heard something snap. From then on whenever I go hard on the gas, I feel a strong thud happen inline with the transmission. I dont know if this is related to my axle possibly getting banged up? Maybe a mount snapped? I really dont know. And I had noticed now that only one wheel spin. I remember when I did the burnouts I saw two tire marks. Very confused and nervous hoping I didnt damage my diff. Really the last time I did burnouts was probably in the late 80's early 90's during my highschool years. Learned it the hard way from crashing my first car into a light pole. And I am learning it the hard way AGAIN. Let me know what could have broke!

Thump like that is often broken trans mount. Time to get under the car and check everything out.

If not replaced, would it cause damage to the trans? I assume yes that it might cause stress on the teeth of the gears? Would just like to know the severity of the problem I have.

It wont hurt the trans itself but you dont want it banging around in there before it ruins your motor mounts too. Its a simple and cheap fix.

The severity of your problem can only be evaluated after you diagnose what it is.

Re: New Member! Thud knocking sound on acceleration

broken trans mount

First thing I'd look at

Next thing I'd look at is not doing "burnouts" to impress my hilljack yokel friends

Another vote for broken trans mount...be sure to replace it with a polyurethane one and NOT a rubber one, unless you want to replace it every year. Mine was so bad that I thought the car was going to break in half every time I accelerated.

Again, trans mount. If you're running a larger than stock driveshaft, it'll also rub the U-joint area all over the trans tunnel making nasty metal on metal noises.

Another vote for rubber on transmission mount split or came off.
