Tech / General EngineIs your car making a strange sound or won't start? Thinking of adding power with a new combination? Need other technical information or engine specific advice? Don't see another board for your problem? Post it here!
I did a TBI to carb swap on my 91 firebird 305. I guess my timing was off because it shot a nice fireball out of the carb and immediately lit everything in the engine bay on fire. Everything on the left side of the engine bay was on fire, everything on the right is fine still. After extinguishing the fire and looking at everything, the intake looks clean, carb still works, intake gaskets are a little melted, I'll need a new dizzy and plug wires and that's all easy. What I'm concerned about now is that the main wiring harness is melted and unusable. I don't have any power when I click the key to ON, the pop ups are up on their own, and the starter was turning while the fire was going, so something went horribly wrong in the harness. Can I rip out all of the engine bay wiring and wire straight to the alternator and dizzy, redo grounds and wiring to the starter? What all can I remove really is the question. I don't want to junk the car. I also already vacuumed up all the powder from the extinguisher.
There’s gotta be someone on here that can sell you a DS wire harness. Disconnect the burned one at the firewall (I think it’s the C100 connector) and install the new harness. Make a Wanted thread in the classified section

So could I just remove the massive harness entirely and plug an older c100 from one of the Fbodies that had 2 separate harnesses or are the pinouts different?
