ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

The threads I find on this are older so looking for a 2023 current offering recommendation. I have a 92 Camaro with the 3.4L swap (includes 3.4L fuel injectors) and a 3.1L ECM. I cured my code 32 with fixing exhaust leaks and new muffler for about 3 months. Now I have a code 32 and a code 45. I have never had a code 45 and I have been driving this car since 1992. I am tired of guess-shooting so looking at datalogging and real time monitoring of sensor data. I understand this can be done on the OBD1 ALDL connector with hardware and software. I am looking for something affordable for an ALDL connector to laptop cable and the software I need. What are the 2023 recommendations without breaking the bank? I am not really looking to do tuning since this is my daily driver and a V6.

Thanks.

Re: ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

For the 1227730 ecm it seems cheaper cables even work. Red Devil or aldlcables.com 12 pin. If you want a better cable I still have some of the new moates xtreme aldl cables . For the older maf it seems like the moates is the way to go but the 730 will connect easily most of the time on an inexpensive cable. I have a red Devil I’d sell for cheap too just missing a usb to usb extension than can be bought online for a few bucks. Tunerpro rt $88 mask is probably what you need on tunerpro.net

Re: ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

Thanks for the info. I downloaded Tunerpro RT so no problem getting that. However, I am guessing the $88 mask in your reference is a GM binary file that needs to be added? I don't find that in downloads unless it is embedded in one of the GM bin files. Do I get this somewhere else and how is it loaded?

Also, do I need the mask if all I want to do is look at the data real time or logged?

Re: ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

The $88 you need is a adx, no adx on the tunerpro site so under acquisition you will lead this and save to a adx. Xdf or bin is not needed to datalog.

Re: ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

Ok, so I copied it and pasted into Notepad as a txt file. Do I simply rename the text file to *.adx?

Re: ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

Ok, I opened the link again. It opens like a text file so I right click and do a "save as" and give it the extension ADS. I assume you meant this approach and then open it in Tunepro RT. I opened Tunerpro RT and do a file open but it is only looking only for BIN files. I tried to open the .ADS I downloaded by opening a Bin file in Tunerpro RT but nothing happens. Assuming I downloaded the file correctly with "save as", how do you open it to save it as an .ADX file?

Re: ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

Not sure how to be any clearer, download by saving as, open tunerpro rt, tool bar acquisition , load definition file the ads you just downloaded. Then save as a adx.

Re: ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

Thanks for the additional info. I was missing the part about using the Aquisition Toolbar. I was assuming you opened the file with File Open since Tunerpro RT is new to me. Anyway, I saved the file as an *.ADS and then went to the Aquisitioni Toolbar to load it as an *.ADS file. All I get is the following error message:

So, I tried to Import the *.ADS file. I didn't get an error message but nothing seems to happen at all in Tunerpro RT.

Re: ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

When I open the link (http://tunerpro.net/download/datastreams/GM/88.ads) the file opens as a text file. The only way to save it is to right click and select "save as". When I do that, it automatically assigns the filename as "88.ads.txt" to the file to save it.

Re: ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

If you’re taking a text and converting that probably corrupts the file.
See instructions on downloading.Downloading

Download definitions by right-clicking and selecting "Save as..." You may need to correct the file extension for V5 definitions (.xdf for bin definitions and .adx for datastream definitions).

Re: ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

I have already done exactly as you said and the instructions say: Downloading

Download definitions by right-clicking and selecting "Save as..." You may need to correct the file extension for V5 definitions (.xdf for bin definitions and .adx for datastream definitions).

I have tried all versions of "Save as..." (.adx, .ads, .txt) and tried both Load and Import in Tunerpro RT for each extension. It still doesn't work and I get that same error message. So, thanks for all your help but I give up on this program. I may try something else like WinALDL or similar later as I would like to be able to see the datastreams in the future. In the meantime, I went back to "old school" troubleshooting and, after a full day yesterday, I was eventually able to fix my car. I have to get on to other work fixing my AC next as well as work on my 67 SS/RS restoration.

Thanks again. I appreciate the time you have spent trying to help. Maybe it is a Windows compatibility issue.

Re: ALDL Cable and Software Recommendation?

TunerPro RT is widely recommended for OBD1 data logging, especially for GM vehicles. It offers real-time data viewing, error code reading, and sensor monitoring without requiring ECM modifications, making it ideal for non-tuning diagnostics. TunerPro RT is free to download and requires a $39 registration to get full functionality, and is very user friendly. Just make sure you have the correct definition file (XDF) and data logging file (ADX) for your particular ECM and tuning.
