Ac compressor bracket

What bracket are yall using for the four seasons compressors? Mine sits way too far forward. It squeals pretty bad especially when running air. Trying to make do until I get a serpentine setup

Re: Ac compressor bracket

Looks like the clutch is way too far out for the belt to line up correctly.

To get my AC from squealing, I had to add the top mount bracket from the compressor mount to the intake manifold, and then the factory "lifting" eyelet.

Re: Ac compressor bracket

Does that piece you got attached to intake act like a brace or does it pull the top part of compressor bracket inwards?

Re: Ac compressor bracket

After comparing your pic and my pic of the compressors, they appear to be about the same. The top brace/bracket does a little of both. It steadies the compressor and pulls it back slightly. Even after I added the top brace, I still had the squeal (not as noticeable) and I proceeded to do a deep dive here on this site and found the factory lifting eye loop has a hole that matches the back of the big AC compressor bracket that also enforces the rigidity of the overall compressor bracket system. Somewhere on this site there is even a factor service article where they would add an additional brace for TPI cars (water pump to the main bracket, I think). Funny thing is, back in the day (when I was younger, and had a little patience and knowledge), I would toss these parts when either adding a new intake manifold or dropping a new to me engine in a car. I didn't want all these unnecessary factory parts getting in the way of all those performance gains! Little did I know that the GM engineers put these little parts and pieces there for a reason.
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that your current intake manifold has a provision for the brace. It mounts to one of the two holes below the carburetor pad. As for a source for the brace? Any GM from the 80s, which used the same style compressor, in the same location, and was an SBC would work. Capricia, Camaro, El Camino, etc.

Re: Ac compressor bracket

I found multiple part numbers for the upper stabilizer bar. Not sure it will mount to my engine. Even though it's probably what's needed. Still looking for the brace you got mounted to intake. It looks like I can pull that off easly, just not seeing it anywhere. Compressor does have some looseness so it will help

Re: Ac compressor bracket

Here are some better pictures of the brackets needed.

Here is one on eBay:

1968-72 GM CHEVOLET 350 CHEVELLE CAMARO NOVA ENGINE LIFT BRACKET W-A/C Vintage | eBay

Brace Part Number is: 14047078

Lifting Bracket is: 00458537

Re: Ac compressor bracket

Doesn't look like the clutch is installed all the way on. You can still see a lot of the electromagnet behind the clutch when it should be inside the clutch. As shown in one of the other pictures, there should be just enough room to slip the clutch harness plug on.

Re: Ac compressor bracket

Did find the bracket. Bad news is you cant buy it anywhere. Theres simply none available. Ive had alot of parts that have been hard to find over the years but this is by far the hardest. Sad thing is, i can see how it would pull the outter edge of the bracket inwards slightly and support it. I feel it would fix my problems

Re: Ac compressor bracket

Maybe try to fabricate something? Like the turn buckle on your alternator? That is what I was going to do if I could not source the correct part? The problem is, (hard to tell from the picture) that your intake manifold does not appear to have the mounting points for that brace. Maybe fab something up to mount to the header bolts? I think the TPI motors had that kind of brace.

Re: Ac compressor bracket

Unfortunately, not - that appears to be the intake bolt to head.

The red circle is where the brace bolts too.
