Lets try this again:
I have a 92 Camaro RS. It is the 10 bolt open rear with 2.73 gears. My friend has 3.23 gears from his 81 Camaro with a 10 bolt 7.5" rear. Could use these gears and the SLP torsen posi(3 series and 28 spline axles)? Do you think it would be worth it?

If it's really a 7½" gear, then yes, it will work. I'd strongly suggest measuring the ring gear inner diameter to make sure though; IIRC the 2nd gen F car 10-bolt was a 8¼". The posi should fit his axles, and will acomodate that gear if it's the right diameter. IMHO it will be worth it if he's looking for a performance boost.

Let's try this again!

92 Camaro has a 28 spline 7.5 diff

81 Camaro has a 28 spline 8.5 diff

8.5" rears use 2.73 and numerical higher gears on the same carrier.

7.5" rears use 3.23 and numerican higher gears on the same carrier.

in '89 7.5" diffs went to 28 splines
in '89 8.5" diffs went to 30 splines.

Basically your friends 3.23's are worthless to a third gen owner.

Here is what he told me:
"I measured the gear and it is a 7.5 gear
here are the numbers you requested
pinion #'s 14035666-13-42-gm 83121n
ring gear #'s gm 14035665
13:42
42 Divide by 13= 3.23 ratio
the rear end may have been changed in the car before I purchased from the
previous owner."

Will they work now, what do you think? Thanks

I wouldn't say worthless! There's a lot of 2nd gen guys looking for those gears used and good shape. Those guys running 400 Pontiacs and 403 Olds engines are using those gears. That's what I'm running in my 77 T/A and they work real nice for a street car.

You can tell just by looking at the two. The 7.5s are tiny compared to the 8.5s. There wasn't any 7.5s from the factory in 2nd gens, totaly differant rearends. All 2nd gens had leaf springs in the rear, and NO torque arm, thank ***.
