car smokes...
upon starting, i notice a little puff of blue smoke. It goes away while driving. After car sits and and then started the puff returns.
I'ts not consuming more than usual amount of oil, maybe a half qt or so every few weeks the engine has good power throughout the rpms. block has 130k miles, heads are new <8k miles. could it be a valve guide or seal? or just bad rings? or is it just time for a 383 stroker?

You're probably right about the seals/guides, although they are fairly new. Are they actually new, or just new to the car? Did they sit for a decent amount of time? The seals can crack if left out or unoiled.
Anyhow, while the car sits the oil that was above the seal leaks down. Oil could not leak up through the rings, it can only be pushed up through them (when they are bad) when the engine is in use, and typically at higher rpms.

yeah... thats what i figured (I think someone forgot a seal). I'll have remove the valve covers and inspect...the motor just runs too-good to have bad rings, though i do notice an oil smell from the exaust during long idle periods. (sitting at a long light)

1/2 a quart every few weeks--how many miles is that. Usually the problem is the valve seals/guides. However, if you have a stuck/broken/worn oil control ring it will still use oil but run pretty good.

You know whats wierd, my car will puff a little blue smoke upon startup (moreso if its warmer) and will kick a little out at high rpms. Its blue and looks like its burning oil, but the funny thing is that my oil level never gets low. I check it all the time and amaze myself, i guess its burning a little but not enough to make me low. Wierd. Also, since i dont have a catalytic converter could that make a difference in the amount of smoke? I was thinking since i dont have a cat, that i puff more smoke then if i would have one. Any correlation?
