cam ????

I have a brand new lg4 305 and rebuilt tranny,

what cam can I install without doing any modifications to the heads, valves, etc, etc. I want something I can just bolt in and still get some performance from.

also what intake would be the best with that combo. and still use the E.G.R. and CC-4BBL, once again I just want simple bolt on stuff.

thanks in advance, Bird

Comp Cams XE 256 cam, 30 hp. Edelbrock Performer intake, 20 hp.

You REALLY have to put on headers and a 3 inch exhaust to get the LG4 to roar. That will be worth 30 hp alone.

I was also looking into the XE256 cam for my LG4, but when I called Comp Cams, the guy told me that this would be too much duration to make the computer "happy." He recommended an XE249, which I think is basically an XE252 with 112 degrees lobe separation and slightly less duration. I'm still not sure whether or not to believe him, but that's what he told me.

I have a XR264HR-12 in my (more or less) L69.... the computer seems happy, at least it's happy enough to pass CA emissions testing.

I think the 256 will be fine. A couple of people on this BBS have used it with good results.

Sitting Bull is right, unless you un-stop up the exhaust, all else is in vain. The cam by itself will do very little, just like the exhaust by itself won't do much; but together, they're major. I'd suggest the Edelbrock TES for some other car, such as a 87 IROC TPI; and a cat and cat-back to match. Whatever you do, DO NOT buy any piece that will bolt to what you now have!!! If it will hook up to the LG4 tubing, it will preserve the bottlenecks the factory installed, and the benefit will be greatly decreased. The whole system should be replaced all the way from the heads to the street as a unit.

RB83L69, are you running a stock torque converter in your car? Also, what gears do you have? I'm sure the XE256 won't be too much cam for the motor itself, but I was told that it won't run right when using the stock torque converter due to the low stall speed. If that cam would work for me, I would really like to get it, but I would rather sacrifice a small amount of power to make sure my motor runs well.

Thanks. Mine's an automatic with 3.08 gears, so that's probably why the guy at Comp Cams told me not to use that one.
