1992 zr1 vette vs 89 tta
#4
Stock for stock the ZR1 but not by much will depend on driver. Motor Trend did a head to head test in like Nov 1990, it was actually a FLAT OUT FASTEST test, I think the TTA qwent to 60 faster but got taken by the ZR1, also the ZR1 went something like 189 MPH the TTA managed like 167.
Now if were talking modified I think the TTA would win.

Mark,
If that's your 'Vette then I'm your bitch! :sillylol:
As for those that think modded for modded the TTA would win, I'll need to put you in touch with Norm Koerner. Owner of number 3 of 4 Lingenfelter TT ZR1s. He was putting out about 820rwhp last I spoke to him. Nice

SOO back to reality, a slightly modded TTA will beat a ZR1 in the 1/4, not top end though.

This is right off the ZR1 web site, from the info Id say it will depend on driver, to close to call STOCK 4 STOCK.
QUESTION: How fast are ZR-1's?
ANS: That is a hard question to answer. Performance numbers vary from ZR to ZR because not every engine built on an assembly line will all have the same horsepower. The LT5 in the ZR-1 will vary from 355 to 414 for example in the 1990 - 1992 375hp cars. Then in 1993 - 1995 the hp went up to a rating of 405hp. Then of course once on the track things like weather conditions, track conditions and driver can affect results. But on average a ZR-1 will do 1/4 mile times around 12.9 at 110mph and 0-60 in 4.9 to 5.2 seconds. I have seen stock ZR-1's do the 1/4 in 12.5 and some in 13.7.

QUESTION: How many ZR-1's did GM build?
ANS: GM built a total of 6,939 ZR-1s. The first year, 1990, they built 3,049, in 1991 they built 2,044, 1992 502, in 1993-1995 they built 448 each year.

Sorry to get a little off topic with this but....Last time I heard from Norm, his car was back at Lingenfelter having some upgrades and some lighter body panels fitted. That car is simply amazing. There was supposed to be a big smack down with Norm and Johm Hennessey and his 1087rwhhp Venom, but since Taig Steward has started his $1million court case John has just been reading the boards instead of posting so the race/video never happened Would have been amazing too. Sorry to get off topic.
Back to it though. You can't compare a modded TTA to anything else American except a GN. They are the American Mk IV Supra, they respont too well to mods which make it difficult to keep up with them. I want one.

I don't mind the ground effects too much, I'm not so sure on the vents in the fenders though

When I went to buy my Iroc-Z in Bakersfield, Ca.. the guy's friend had a blue 1991 ZR-1 in his garage. It was a beautiful car inside and out, looked just like it came from the showroom. Then I saw the 15 pound bottle in the trunk. :hail: ZR-1

ZR1 would take a stock TTA. And if i had to choose between a new Z06 and an older ZR1, i'd take the ZR1. ZR1 had about the same horsepower from the factory but they were bottled up too. Those things have a 7K red-line from the factory and they respond very well to mods, thanks to those 16 extra valves........

Wow. A theoretical race between 2 cars that actually have *****!
ZR-1 stock for stock. However I don't think a stock TTA exists anymore.
USually we get will my 120 horse LG4 beat a neon with a 5" pipe.
The answer my 10 speed schwinn.

I'm sure there will be someone who has kept their TTA stock because of the rarity of them and the value that they will hold/fetch in the future. I'm also betting that there are loads out there that could be turned back to stock with little trouble.
Amazing cars, both of them.

Stock TTAs still exist. Just picked up my 1111 mile example a few weeks ago. Original everything. When looking I found no less than 30 with under 1500 miles that were bone stock. Those 30 were jsut the ones that happened to be for sale at that time too! I think quite a few of those were bought and tucked away and have yet to see the light of day. Those ZR1s are nice but for the $65k they cost new I would have gladly taken a couple of TTAs!

Ive ridden in a ZR1 before and the real place these cars shine is in the corners. 1.00g on the skidpad from a car made in the early 90s?? Thats unheard of. Back then there was probably no cars that could touch a ZR1 in autox.

Purchase Price of the TTA
I bought my TTA for $20k. Most of the others were in the same range. The sub 100-mile cars tended to be about $22k-$25k depending on where they were in the country. I ended up paying to have mine shipped too which added to the cost but it was certainly worth it. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks shrp1, I'll check it out. By the way there is a sample of what I'm doing in my signature, I still have some bugs to work out.
BTW, if you have higher resolution pics, could you email them to me.
