LG4 kills an Eclipse

im coming home from school, when this mid-late 90s Eclipse (non-turbo, i think it had GS emblems) comes up along side me at a red light. it has chinese lettering on the window and a fart pipe. couldve had more, but im not sure. so i think "this guy will probably try to race me" so i drop it into 1st, bring the revs up to 1200, and get ready for the green light. it changes and i launch with just a small "squeek" from the tires. i floor it, and shift into 2nd at about 4500 and notice the import just lagging behind. "damn! i guess hes not interested", well as i let up, he flys by me and hangs at about 65mph. i pace him until the next light turns red. up ahead about an 1/8th mile or so, our 2 lane road narrows into 1 lane, so i know one of us has to get there first. light turns green and sure enough, he goes for it. i slowly pull on him through first, and open up about a 2-3 car length lead by the end of 2nd. im ahead at this point, so i merge in front of him. he follows me (not to closely, though), until i turn off. as he went by i gave him a thumbs up, and got a rev of the fart pipe in return. personally, i think i couldve done better. the floor mat was in the way of the gas pedal, and i was a bit nervous ( i was torn between watching him and my rpms, so i dont think i shifted exactly right). this is my first street race in my Camaro since i bought it in early January. time to start a "kills" list

my sister has an eclipse and unfortunetly i have to do the maintence on it for her. I hate the car, its a 99-00 GS. I can't remember what year it is, but its the year before they redid the styling on it. Anyway's, the car is so slow it scares me.

Story:
I live in Jersey right across the bridges of Philly and my sister went to some dumb club there to meet her b/f so I had to drive her. NOOO way was my car going bad city late night, her car is going. On the way home, going uphill on a on-ramp to I-95 (runs pretty much the whole east coast) I floored it to gain speed but couldn't. Flat out, I couldn't get the thing to move any faster while there are 18 wheelers barreling by me at 85mph and my lane is going to end soon. I tell ya, I hated the car since then.

Good kill .... Don't you hate it when theres too much going on and you forget to shift at the correct points .. hehe

I see there's even hope for our poor '84 LG4s! I'm getting Headers exhaust in a month or two... ought to make a nice difference...

BTW about the Eclipse not making it to highway speed... perhaps you were shifting too early... My mom has a 99 civic hatchback and you gotta rev the hell out of it (when she's not in the car ) to move like they say it can (8.5 0-60) up to about 6500 RPM... I found it lagging horribly just because I was used to low end torque, Civics just aren't made to accelerate at 45 up a hill in 4th LOL.

eclipses are very slow!! I have a 79' pontiac catalina w/ 4.9L 301 cid and it only runs high 17's and i never have probs. beating the new eclipses. I think the old turbo's were faster than the new ones

i raced another Eclipse (non-turbo) at my local track in the Vette and it went 17.8!! he thought i was supercharged cause i completely killed him off the line (gotta love TPIs torque). the one i raced yesterday had to have had some more stuff in it than that one cause my Z is a proven low 16 sec car, and it kinda kept up with me. ive noticed that my LG4 pulls strongest in 3rd, so if i had more room to race than the 1/8 or so we did, i really would have killed him!

RB's84camaroF-41, definately let me know the results when you drag your Camaro after the exhaust upgrade. im planning on going to the track this weekend to race mine myself and try to get it into the 15s. i would have gone much sooner, but something always comes up (rain), but theyre calling for sunny weather this Fri, so wish me luck!

Axle/Gears: stock posi 2.73, 12 bolt with 4.11s
my friend has an lg4 with a 4 barrel,5 speed and an open 3.73 rear stock,
the modes he has done are:
custom duels snorkle air filter, flowtech headers and thier 2.5"y-pipe,cat delete,3" i-pipe,and a flowmaster
and i tell you that thing is fast.
it maynot be as fast as my 89 305 tpi but it is very fast for an lg4
he use to have a 88 formula with tbi and 5 speed and i would kill him by 2-3 car lengths when we were both stock but he holds me more with this new car
very hot car
