It depends on wether his cars an auto or stick.
In '86 the auto LB9s were rated at 190hp and the LB9 with a 5-speed was rated at 210hp. With the work thats done to your car you might be able to hold your own against a 190hp LB9 (it would be close), but if his got a stick and if he can drive Im pretty sure he would have you beat.

If you ran a 15.2 on the GTech you should be able to take him.

I am pretty sure that 90 was the year that all T/As got TPI. I'll check my sales brochure when I get home. Is your car original?

The LB9 will take you. He has 190 horsepower 285 ft lbs torque compared to your L03's 170 horsepower and 255 ft lbs of torque. G-tech is known to give false readings at times, so I wouldnt rely on it heavily. i dont see your exhaust and chip making up 20 horsepower and 30 ft lbs of torque, but stranger things have happened

RedArrow: you're the first one that i havent been able to fool. It's not an original TA. The guy i got it from but GFX and a bulge hood on it. I swapped out the tail lights and spoiler and put on some GTA wheels. Only thing left is the motor. Thats ok. I have an L98 on the stand. I call it the mystery car. 90 sc with 85-90 GFX, 86 spoiler, 84 hood, and an L03. Only diehards pick up on most of it though.

Yes I am a genious aren't I??? Actually, I'm just an old fart that was buying new third gens back in the late eighties while in H.S. and college. So instead of retaining valuable information to be had from teachers in H.S. and college I retained knowledge of option codes from Firebird brochures. I'm pretty smart huh?

What rear gears do you both have? if he has the 3.23 or the 3.27 and yo have the 2.73 it will be a walk in the park for him , if you both have 2.73 gears thenit will be pretty good with IMO him pulling away from you around 40mph and maybe putting 1 to 2 cars. I have an 86 T/A 305 TPI with auto and 3.27 (9 bolt) and it is crappy in second gear but 1st and third its a monster. I have raced near stock 5.0s from the late 80s and only lose ground in secon gear eventually losing by a car (to sticks) and winning by a few against AODs. My freind has a simular car to yours (a 91 TBI firebird w\ factory gfx) he has the 2.73 rear gears and it isnt a race after 2nd gear.

I'm just a sucker who leans toward underdogs, and I can see 20 hp with the mods. So I say the LO3 will win.

By the way, this is my first time reading this post, and the first thing I thought of when I read it was "What the heck is a LO3 doing in a T/A?" Ofcourse, further reading confirmed my suspicion.

Good luck.

I'm going to say its LB9. If he's all stock and you had headers, I think you could get him.

Actually you could get an LO3 in a T/A. But not in 1990, 91 or 92.
