Tried something today!

Today after dropping my friend off, I tried something, I was at a light, and a late 80s Iroc pulled up next to me, and it was a kid from school!!! I had already decided to try powershifting and this just made it even more sweet, that was if I hit the shifts!

The light went green and I nailed it, about 3/4 throttle till it hooked, and by then the light came on, and I power shifted second. I pulled it into second beautifully, and decide not to let up. The shift light came on again and I power shifted 3rd. Bam, another great shift. I was so happy I forgot about the Iroc, so I looked behind me and there he was, at least 10-12 cars back through the top of 3rd. I put it in 4th and then 5th and he went flying by me smiling???

This was great but I know the car is a 305 with a carb, and an auto, so it isn't the fastest thing, but it does look really nice!!!

There is my first kill, although not really fair, but fun anyway, and no hard feelings!

That's cool! The iroc sounds like (unless he put in the carb) he has an L03 TBI. I got a question for you, what's the shift light for? I know it sounds stupid but, does it tell you the best time to shift? How does it know when the best time to shift is? Just wondering! Nice run!

shift lights are programmable. you just enter what rpm you want the light to come on at and it comes on so you dont have to look at the tach.

its just a visual signal that its time to shift so you dont have to look down at the tach throughout a run.

probably was an LG4. you better watch out for those LG4's. stock they were deep in the 12's. with bolt on's they could easily be in the 10's......

yeah, it was probably an LG4. mine went 16.0 with the airbox removed in hot weather, so with cooler temps, i think it could do that with the box on. theyre certainly not fast enough to take out modded Stangs, but the good thing about these motors is they are very reliable. ive seen plenty go over 150k, mines a 84' and it still runs great!

I used to be able to with the auto, but with the stick, it is much easier to set the light! 5200 and by the time I hit it, if it is still pulling, it is at around 5400-5500! I know his car wasn't fast but it looks really good!

yeah LG4's may have not been hardcore performers, but they can take a beating. My engine's got 175,000 miles and the engine and tranny have never been rebuilt. They will be soon, but that's pretty good. I should be on one of those GM commercials talking about how "reliable" my car is and how it still runs mid 16s!

me n u would be a good race, nice run.

im part retarded, this is what i do. ive driven the car long enough to know when and when not to do stuff, when its stopped pulling and all that good stuff. but still everytime i race, i dont look at the tach, its by habit i believe from when i first drove it, everytime i race it i always look down at about 5000-5200rpms when i have to shift. then face back on road, then when 2nd gear is ending i look at 5000-5200rpms and shift again or whenever i feel it is done pulling. im retarded i swear, i know thats when the car has to shift but my head always tilts down to look at the tach...yea id get a shift light if they didnt cost like a gazillion dollars. plus i raced a 5spd stang before with his huge monster tach, he looked cool 2 car lengths behind me with his shift light going on hehehe.
