Raced a early second gen last night....

This kid at my college has a split bumper second gen, I think it's a 72'. It is very clean....nice paint, wheels, dual flowmaster system, it's a 350, I'm unsure of the mods, backed by a four speed. It sounds good, and he told one of my friends that he was fast and that his mods go on and on.
So last night, real late about 2 am, I see him on the road, chase him down, and he turns right onto a 2 lane road, I pull up next to him and drift by in 3rd at about 3500 rpm so he can hear the pipes, he looks over and knows its coming. He pulls up a bit and drops a gear and takes off a bit so I could see what he's got. Then he slowed down so I could get up next to him again, I was in 3rd, then he started to gun it, I let her loose, smoked him like turkey. I pulled about 4 lengths thru 3rd and at the top of 4th I had about 8 on him. The next light was red, we said what's up, and he said "yeah I don't have a fast motor in this car anymore, only 220 horse instead of 330" What a sore loser!! Then he did a burnout, guess he was trying to redeem himself, Another kill with the bored out L69!!!

hell yeah 305s rule. That's a good kill. Those early 2nd gens weren't affected by the emissions laws yet. Your engine kicks *** dude.

Good kill,

one thing springs to mind though, if the 72 looks and sounds good but doesn't run a fast motor, what is the kid doing racing, if it were mine i'd just cruise about enjoying a lovely old classic.

Yeah...

All show, no go, my car is a beater though, it doesn't look like it'll haul, it's not that bad, no primer or nothin. But it's definately a sleeper. Everybody thinks the older thirdgens can't run, a bunch of em' can't but the L69's w/3.73's can scoot a little if you know how to mod them.

I don't mind, it's my first second gen kill!!!!

And the car is really clean, seriously. It could probably place at a second gen show, no bs. If I were him I would just cruise it also.

many moons ago, i was given some good advice by a co worker relating to any racing,

"only race it if your prepaired to loose it"

for me at least, i think the second gen would be too nice for this!
