2.8 chicken vs. 2.8 chicken....
My friend has a v6 2.8L carb engine in his 84 s/e
I have a v6 2.8L MP FI in my 85 firebird s/e
whats better the carb or the fuel injected , theyre both automatics
thats how the race would be now but im getting a 3.4L block and swapping that in rebuilding and MAYBE , make that HOPEFULLY gonna get an intercooler off a turbo t/a 89
Hes putting an edelbrock performer intake w/ a 4bbl on his 2.8 who do you think would win this one?

You're car should get to speed quite a bit quicker than the 2.8 with the carb. This is coming from a guy with two 2.8 Firebirds. I got my 85 (fuel injected) after my 84 developed a horrible oil leak from the block. My 85 is quite a bit more zippy than the 84 is. I think that the base carbed 2.8's have about 107 hp, and the 85 2.8's have about 135 hp. I think that the Firebird SE has a high output 2.8 but I'm not sure how much more power it had. My 84 needs a carb rebuild so it is probably a little slower than it should have been to though. If he has the high output 2.8 it will probably be a close one though. Now that I think of it somewhere I've seen a list of Pontiac engines from 84', I think that the HO versions of the 2.8 had about 120 - 125 hp (not %100 sure). By the way, good luck finding the intercooler of the Turbo TA, those cars were pretty rare. It would probably be nearly impossible to find a part like that unless you just happen to find a wrecked one that somebody has gotten a hold of yet. Heck I had a hard time finding a replacement headlight motor from a junkyard for my 85 and every 3rd gen Firebird came with those. By the way, I'm planning on swapping a 3.4 in my 85 like you are, but I won't get to start on it until after college. I'm planning on getting the Edelbrock intake manifold and the 4bbl carb like your friend.

As to who would win after mods, I'd think that the 3.4 would smoke the 2.8 for sure. I really doubt that you'd even need the turbocharger. The 3.4 has about 160 hp. Assuming that you're friends car isn't an HO, the 4bbl carb and intake manifold probably would only make as much hp as your car does now.

I raced 'Bebefouch' and beat him by a fender I think.
He has carbed, I have MPFI.

My friend has a 3.4 in his '89 bird and it will easily beat a 2.8 carbed s/e. Like 84and85bird said the 3.4 has 160 hp and 200 tq. So you wouldn't even need the turbo setup. Leave that for the TPIs.
