My modded 86 vs 2002 modded

Ok here is the scoop:
2002 B4C police package LS1 Camaro T-56 tranny
Fast Toys Ram Air
Cold air lid and filter (I think he got a new filter)
Corsa Catback
He is getting long tubes and running high flow cats with it.
Electric cutouts for exhaust
Stock clutch/rear/tranny

I told him to get a granatelli MAF, but he says the guys at LS1.com said it was a waste of money...he is a magazine mechanic. He thought that cam lift (int/ex) meant internal/external. He is a good guy though, my buddy.

Then there is my car. I need to bring the timing down and change jets. But what do you think?

He may be getting a new cam with it also and splurging for a dyno tune in a CT based speed shop featured on LS1.com.
Cam specs are like:
220/230 duration
.535/.535 or something like that for the lift. Maybe .55. It is a mild cam. He doesn't want a really lopey idle. He may even go with a 220/220 duration cam.

I think I will get outgunned with a new cam.
First tell me without the cam, then with.

Thanks (sorry for long post)

I think it will be a good race. No way of predicting the win unless you just race. Make sure to post the results.

what kind of power are you putting out? do you have any times? are you a good driver? is he a good driver? I've run quite a number of LS1's since my last mods, everything from stock to highly modified. I would say that if he doesnt get the cam, it would probably be a pretty good race. Like you said though that seems like a pretty mild cam so it may not help him out too much. I'd say race for the fun of it and see how you can do. The LS1 cars are one line of cars I don't mind losing too everynow and then.

Well with everything including the tune and cam about the max he could put down to the ground would be around 375 rwhp or thereabouts. Lets say 340-345ish with all the mods other than the cam/tuning.

What kinda power do you think you're really making? I honestly don't know what to think. I mean you have what sounds like a pretty mean combo, what do the heads flow? Cam looks pretty mean (looks like a monster actually if the numbers I got for a XE284 are right (240/246 @.050, lift of .507/.510?? not driven around too much I take it), etc. With all the little details taken care of (how big are the header primaries you have? Full length LTs right?) I would think you could be competition for him even with the cam, but maybe I'm missing something holding you back.

And that's just the power end of it, you have better gears, what looks like a better suspension setup, etc.

I think you have a real shot from what I'm guestimating.

Get this race on video, should be sweet, especially if you clean his plow (boy is that a stupid expression when you type it out, hehe...)

With bolt ons and a cam an LS1 will be putting down way more than 340 rwhp. the stock cam on the 98 to 2000 Ls1 have a .500 lift from the factory so .535 isnt too radical although he should see some good gains from it. I think it will be a pretty good race. Like Ray87Z said you should tape it so we can all see it.

Oops, misread you as you apparently also misread me. I said the 340-345rwhp numbers were for the car with the LTs and such, minus the cam/tuning.

375ish rwhp was what I said with the cam/tuning...

more on my mods

My heads flow 245 int/230 exh. I got them off ebay from a guy who worked at brodix. I don't have full length long tubes, just shorties with no cats. Still breathes well. I am getting a vac reserve canister for my brakes for driveability.

I think I may need more carb though. I heard i can make much more power with a 650 DP, or 750 DP.
